Nothing slows a good game of Dungeons and Dragons down quicker then unorganized players (or Dungeon Masters). Dungeons and Dragons is a role-playing pen and paper game that simulates fantasy adventures with wizards, warriors, dragons and monsters. The rules for Dungeons and Dragons can be quite complex at time and if not easily accessible, can slow a game down as each person looks for his characters abilities, damage modifiers, spell durations, etc.
A character sheet is a document where you write down all of the applicable rules, abilities, and scores for your character, so that when playing the game, everything is only a glance away. On your character sheet you will have the data and rules for your weapons, your equipment, your primary ability scores, the bonuses you add to your rolls when trying to avoid being hit by a trap, how long your spell lasts that you just cast, and many more pieces of data. It also provides a handy place to write notes during a campaign.
The Dungeons and Dragons Character Sheets product contains 16 sheets of paper and an attractive cardboard folder to contain them. The art on the package is a nice representation of iconic Dungeons and Dragons characters. This product does what it claims: provide character sheets for the primary classes in the Player's Handbook. A nice addition is sheets for spell planning for the magical classes and sheets for animal companions or familiars or mounts. The sheets are specialized by character class, which is a nice touch. Unfortunately, they are not the best designed if your character decides to multi-class (example, if a Barbarian becomes a wizard at third level, the sheet doesnt quite accommodate that move.)
Generic sheets for Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition and 3.5 can be found at the Wizards of the Coast website for free. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/charactersheets
The website also has character sheets based on the classes in the Complete series of books and Eberron specific sheets. Also, many people have published home-made character sheets on the web. While specialized sheets are nice, they may not be worth the price, seeing as there are many free alternatives. Also, if you use a character creation software tool such as E-Tools, you will be printing out your character and wont need separate sheets.
These originally were released in August of 2000 with the third edition of Dungeons and Dragons. If you are playing the current edition (3.5) and you want a similar product, then you should look at the Deluxe Player Character Sheets or the Deluxe Eberron Character Sheets (if you are playing an Eberron adventure)
