Pros: Aromatic and smooth tasting. Consistently delicious.
Cons: More expensive than store bought brands.
Here I am sitting at my computer during my ritualistic morning routine with my cupful of Dunkin Donuts Coffee and checking out new epinions. Feeling somewhat silly this morning and full of curiousity, I hastily type in Dunkin Donuts into the search box and VOILA! A chance to exude praise for my favorite coffee!
Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend is made from 100% Arabica beans from Central and South America. These beans grind into aromatic and flavorful coffee each time you brew. Not very many people buy Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend for home brewing simply because they are unaware that Dunkin Donuts sells it by the pound or they dont think that they can make it at home. It is brewed using any old coffee maker that you have in the house!
There are two ways to buy Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend. You can buy it in WHOLE BEAN or GROUND. Each package clearly states what type you are buying. I usually buy the ground one only if I am in a hurry. A little known fact about buying Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend WHOLE BEAN is that the store employees will happily grind your whole beans for you in the store! They will ask you how you want the beans ground so be prepared by knowing what kind of coffee maker you have. You can choose automatic for your Mr. Coffee or drip for your old fashioned percolator. The grind you choose in the store determines how fine the beans will be ground. Ive actually had the beans ground INCORRECTLY in the store once or twice (not fine enough, like a rough, coarse grind producing bigger pieces this produces more watery tasting coffee). And if you have a grinder at home, of course you will be buying Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend in whole bean!
As with any coffee, the freshest cups are the ones you drink instantly after brewing. Dunkin Donuts advises you not to leave the coffee sitting in the pot for more than 18 minutes to guarantee the perfect taste.
On each bag of Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend are instructions for its use. Dunkin Donuts suggests storing the coffee in an airtight container somewhere cool. Now, heres the SHOCKER They suggest to never freeze it! This goes against what many people feel is the norm but ever since I stopped freezing my Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend, it seriously tastes better.
Cant get the store? Check out dunkindonuts.com and buy the coffee online! Talk about getting your fix .
I get my coffee ground to automatic and based on the grind, you get different tasting coffee. When I buy pre-ground, I get a consistently smooth and mellow tasting brew. There is no bitterness, even after its been sitting for a while. It is clearly stronger than Folgers or Maxwell House (although with their differing varieties these days, you could probably find something a bit more like this but it STILL wont be Dunkin Donuts!). There is absolutely no acidic taste and it will never taste burned.
The Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend is sold in 1 pound bags that are stamped with a freshness date on the back. Each bag has a built in vent to allow a sort of air flow but for the life of me I cant figure out how it works to help keep your coffee fresh.
Now, heres something you should know. I find that the unopened, sealed bags are very difficult to open at home without using a scissor. This is important to know because there are little wire flaps to seal the open bag but if you have to use scissors to open the bag, you may have to cut UNDER the flaps. Silly, isnt it? How DO those store employees open the bags so effortlessly? Well, if you buy a bag of Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend whole bean and have them grind it for you, you will have no problem!
Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend is much more expensive than coffee you buy in the supermarket. This coffee sells for typically $6.99 a pound ($7.99 for the decaf variety) but at certain times of the year Dunkin Donuts runs specials like 2 pounds for $10. I usually stock up then. I also look for coupons for $1. off that run in my local papers or in the Entertainment Book. But if you love Dunkin Donuts coffee and dont want to wait on line at the store, splurge and have a pound at home. You will not be sorry.
Incidentally, there are additional flavors of coffee for home purchase but they cost more as well. Theres Hazelnut and French Vanilla both in regular and decaf.
Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend is such a great tasting coffee in the morning or any time. That is the beauty of buying this coffee by the pound and brewing it at home. It is such a smooth taste, not bitter in the least and not too strong. I find it to be much milder than the harsh Starbucks coffee I have at home.
Ive been buying Dunkin Donuts Coffee Original Blend for my home use for so long I cant remember NOT having it in the morning. Its worth the money to simply wake up to the smell of fresh coffee brewing and NOT have to fight off the smell of donuts!
