| Froggmann's Full Review: Dunlop Radial Mud Rover Truck/SUV Tire |
A little background, Remington and Dunlop are the same company. They both sell the same tires just under different names. Kinda like Bridgestone and Firestone, only these things stick to the ground and they stay in one piece. Anyways, this review is actually on the Remington Wide Brute, the parallel product to the Dunlop Mud Rover.
When my Kelly Safaris started to get down to the wear strip I decided to go shopping for a new set of tires. After a little bit of searching I came down to two brands, BFGoodrich and Remington. I finally decided on the Remingtons due to price and they were supposed to last a little longer, plus for the last 5 years I was running Remingtons on my 88 Cougar I had zero complaints.
This tire is great on the road and off, in silt, in the rain, in the mud, and even on dry pavement. The tread pattern is quite aggressive, so they are a little noisy on the road above 50 MPH, and they get louder as your speed increases. Handling is pretty good especially for the fact this is more of an off-road tire than an on road tire. The harder rubber compound doesn’t stick to the road as well as the Kellys did but they did get me through the sand pit I got stuck in last year. The ride is a little rougher than having street-only tires due to the fact the on road air pressure recommended by Remington is 45 Psi.
Off road these things are gems, the will go up a mountain down a sand wash and across a mud pit with the greatest of ease. The sidewalls are nice and thick so little things like scrub-brush branches wont puncture the tire out in the middle of nowhere. The lugs are designed to self-clean so you don’t have to worry about losing traction in mud or snow like you would with a street tire.
All in all I personally think these tires are equal if not better than the BFG counterparts what’s better is these tires are close to 25 dollars cheaper than the BFGs and last longer, a double bonus. I would readily recommend these tires to anyone who has a truck or SUV that they plan to actually take off road.
