| mbrooks420's Full Review: Dunlop Radial Mud Rover Truck/SUV Tire |
When I purchased a plow I decides I would try a set of off road traction tires over winter tires. I would be plowing in a lot of deep, hard to get to areas, and have to deal with getting through the salty snowbanks the street plows leave. We get almost 200 inches of snow every year, so we see our fair amount of waking up to poor driving conditions.
For deep snow they work well. If you get to aggressive they will tend to dig you in, but I think any open lug tire would do the same. In deep, heavy snow they really surprised me. If you kept up a little momentum, they would just keep going and going. No complaints with them in the snow.
On icy roads they handle a little less predictable than a normal AT tire, and of course, can't compare to a snow tire. I've never just lost control, or not been able to stop, but I did have to drive a little slower, and more controlled than I have in the past. Again I think this is a trait of an open lug tire.
In the mud, where the tire probably shines the most, they do very well for there price group. The lugs are open enough that they clean out well at a lower rpm, and will dig to find traction. I've been stuck in the snow twice(but I only blame myself)but I haven't been even worried in the mud. I don't do a lot of mudding, but they have exceeded my expectations. I've had them almost hub deep, and if you keep momentum, they keep on clawing for traction.
Bottom line, they are an excellent entry lever mud tire. They are noisy like a traditional mud tire, and don't have a long treadlife. I'll get around 30k probably. My only complaint is the sidewalls could be stronger. I did puncture 2, one on a sharp sock, and one in a really nasty pothole. The pothole probably would have taken out most tires.
