| sbschott's Full Review: Dyson DC07 Allergy Blue/Turquoise Bagless Upright ... |
Our old DirtDevil (Target for about 100$) recently started to go, and my wife was able to pick up a Dyson (the yellow one-400$).
I have a shedding dog (Golden), and a child who makes all manner of messes.
Since the DirtDevil was not dead yet, I ran several tests, mostly because I couldn't believe a 400$ vacuum was worth it, and also because I'm a bit of a geek.
My tests:
1) Let dirt accumulate for 3 days and then vacuum with one. After three days more, vacuum with the other. See if bags of junk look equivalent.
2) Vacuum with one, then vacuum with the other right after. See how much the first missed.
2a) As a subset of #2, vacuum with one, empty it, and vacuum with same one again, to see how much the vacuum misses that it would pick up itself on a second run.
My conclusions, based on these tests: NO difference at all between the DirtDevil and the Dyson FOR REGULAR VACUUMING.
That being said, the Dyson has some really good features. The accessories work really well, especially on stairs and furniture, and when the beater bar is off, the Dyson does a great job on non-carpeted floors. The Dyson is also nice because it doesn't use a filter and is easy to empty.
If you are on a budget, the DD is fine. If you want some smaller advantages, and have the means, get the Dyson.
