The Bottom Line: If you suffer from allergies, long dog hair, or clouds of dust from changing bags or emptying dust cups, Mr. Dyson's innovation will save your life.
ryangibson77's Full Review: Dyson DC07 Allergy Blue/Turquoise Bagless Upright ...
I bought one of these Dyson's from Costco about four months ago after reading some mixed reviews here on epinions.
My last vacuum was also a bagless, which always kept getting my dogs long white hair wrapped around the filter in the dust cup. This anoyed me to no end, since I had to unwrap all the hair from the filter at EVERY dump. In addition to the hair, the pleats in the filter were ALWAYS full of dust and lint, which needed to be beaten out on the side of the garbage can also at every dump. This produced a wicked dust cloud, which made me think of all the dead skin that I was breathing as I was doing my almost daily dust-cup-dump. :@
Then came the day that I decided the hefty price tag MUST be worth it...I mean, you get what you pay for right? There had to be something better out there, and the Dyson seemed to fit the bill...so I went for it.
Four months later, I am still impressed every time I vacuum. I still need to dump the dust cup about every other time I vacuum, however, it is a piece of cake to remove the dust cup, much easier than the usual...you just push a button and lift it out. Everything has a very exact, well designed fit and feel. Nothing is too tight or too loose...everything just clicks into or out of place.
Emptying the dust cup is one of life's simple pleasures that everyone should be able to enjoy. Simply pull the trigger, the trap-door opens, and all the bad-nasties fall out. Everything falls out the bottom, and creates little or no dust cloud.
In addition to the ease of dumping, there are no filters to clean at dump time, (there are other filters, which I will get to shortly). Rather than the pleated main filter in the dust cup, there is a plastic cylinder with a bunch of holes in it that keeps all the big stuff out of the cyclone filter.
There are also fins in the bottom of the dust cup which help prevent hair and lint from swirling around, which prevents hair from being wrapped around the pre-filter (previously mentioned plastic screen). Great design. Especially for people with long-haired dogs.
There are five seperate methods of filtration on this vacuum. First is the afore-mentioned plastic screen, then the cyclone "seperators," then a foam filter, followed by a paper filter. Finally, there is a lifetime HEPA filter, which should never need to be changed, assuming you keep up with routine maintenence.
The cyclones REALLY WORK. It's amazing. The foam filter even after four months in an incredibly dusty environment (volcanic dust!) only has a very small amount of dust on the top surface. You are supposed to rinse the foam filter in water every six months (which the full kit makes very easy, since it comes with two foam filters). I believe I could go at least another four months without even doing the rinse...it's that clean.
My only complaint about this vacuum is the wand. While fairly easy to remove from the vacuum, it requires some disasembly and reassembly of the hose and handle...not really a big deal, and on the bright side, it eliminates the cheap plastic telescopic tubes that most vacuum cleaners come with, and replaces them with a nice aluminum tube with a built in handle. Really I could go either way with this one.
In conclusion, if you suffer from allergies, long dog hair, or clouds of dust from changing bags or emptying dust cups, Mr. Dyson's innovation will save your life.
