ixxusnexxus's Full Review: Dyson DC07 Allergy Blue/Turquoise Bagless Upright ...
First the good:
I have allergies which always acted up when I used my old vacuum. With the Dyson, there is much less dust thrown into the air so this is not a problem any more.
The Dyson also has powerful suction. I was quite impressed at how much dirt filled the canister the first time I used it.
The cord is nice and long. I can finally clean the whole living/dining area without having to switch outlets in the middle.
Now the bad:
Along with the dirt, there was also a lot of carpet fibers in the canister. When I tried to use it on an area rug, it pulled the fibers completely out of the rug so it is now frayed all over and ruined.
While it sounds like it would be easy to empty the canister by just releasing the bottom lid and shaking it into the trash, this doesn't work. The problem is that the dirt begins to collect at the top of the canister, filing the space between the cyclone element and the side of the cansiter. No amount of shaking will dislodge this dirt and you are forced to disassemble the top of the canister and manually use a DRY brush to clean out the cyclone element. This throws up so much dirt into the air, it is murder on my allergies and much worse than just tossing a full bag into the trash. And you have to do this practically every time you use the vacuum.
Using the attachments is awkward. You have to pull out the whole wand from the handle, which is about 4 feet long before you can use any attachment. This makes it awkward to move the attachment into a narrow space with a 4 foot bar flapping around. To make it worse, the accordion hose is very stiff so I constantly felt like I was fighting with the hose while using it. Also, you can't use the attachment wand without first unwinding the whole cord, making it impractical for a quick detail cleanup. I gave up and pulled out my dustbuster instead.
The Dyson is also noticeably heavier than my old model, making it more of a chore to use.
