Doesn't Lose Suction... Even After You're Married
by criteeker | Jan 18 '07
Pros: really works better than any vacuum out there, many accessories, futuristic design, quiet
Cons: no retractable cord, too many trips outside to empty the canister, no bag for accessories

I came to write a review about the Dyson "Animal," but you covered it all so thoroughly, I felt like my review would be moot LOL.

We don't have carpeting in our 100 year old home, but we do have a Capel braided rug (huge), and 2 Orientals. We don't have to turn the beater bar of for the Orientals, but we do on the Capel.

I bought ours for my husband with our Target Gift Cards we got for our wedding, using the 10% off Wedding Registry Completion Card the sent us (otherwise I would have been POed about the 20% off at BB&B LOL). I am disabled, so my husband is the vacuumer of our family.

We have an Aussie Shepherd (picture lots of long black hair) and 2 Chinese Pugs (lots of short fawn colored hair) and a cat (thank the Lord she doesn't shed), and three long-haired females in our household, so there is always loose hair somewhere.

Our Electrolux just wasn't getting it anymore. The night we brought the Dyson home, just on the 2 3' x 5' Orientals in the bedroom, my husband emptied the canister 5 times! And that was after having vacuumed 2 days before with the Electrolux. Our rugs looked NEW, even though they were 2 years old.

As my husband says "This Dyson sucks the right way!" He tells everyone about his new 'toy.'

I agree that they should have included a nice bag for the accessories that won't attach to the vacuum. Also, it's a pain to have to 'wrap the cord.'

It will give you an upper body workout, and don't let children operate it. We could let the girls vacuum with the Electrolux, but the Dyson is too strong for the 10 year old to handle. It swung her around like a rag doll when the beater bar was going. Beat Her was more like it. It would have made a great video for "America's Funniest."

Great review!

I have found that after a while, the Dyson DOES lose suction power. I forgot to clean the small (round) pre-filter. I opened the door and looked at a VERY furry filter. The thing was caked with white dog hair. After I cleaned the filter and let it dry, the vac was back to normal again.

People with multiple pets should clean the filter much sooner than the required six months.

that your wife would send YOU out to get HER a new vacuum cleaner and not insist on going along!!

Good review. We just got one of these too, and my wife really likes it. I guess I'll probably write it up here if I ever use it lol...

My old Hoover is dying, and the cat hair is beginning to be noticed. I used to balk at the price, but not anymore! To me, and my sneezing habit, this is a must have!

....bought a Dyson and I am still amazed at how much fur it picks up weekly. Makes me wonder how I lived without this wonderful appliance!

Great review!

P.S. I put the accessories into a mesh bag and hung them on a hook in the closet.
