Pros: ease of set-up and use, tremendous cleaning ability
Cons: cost, length of handle
The Bottom Line: This is a superior machine and possibly the best vacuum on the market, but one must weigh the high cost when making their purchasing decision.
hobb2712's Full Review: Dyson DC25 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
We recently received the DC25 as a wedding gift, and it is by far the best vacuum we have ever owned. We knew of Dyson’s reputation as a superior vacuum when we registered for the gift, but were not sure anyone would spring for this item. We were overwhelmed (and disgusted) with this product’s ability to suck dirt and grime out of our carpet. Having bought a foreclosed property in recent years, we have tried various means to clean the high traffic and stained portions of the carpets without springing for an entire home flooring makeover. The Dyson product gave us fantastic results.
Right from the easy assembly out of the box, this vacuum has been efficient and easy-to-use due to its superior design. Another one of the main benefits of this product other than its “sucking” ability is the ancillary features themselves. The ease of use with the attachment tools makes attacking corners and cobwebs a breeze. The telescopic hose is easy to handle for those hard-to-reach places. The ball pivot feature makes this vacuum more flexible in its movements than most upright vacuum cleaners and functions much like a swivel head Swiffer mop given its ease of cornering. The ability to take the vacuum flush to the baseboards even lessens the need for the splendid attachments. Dyson’s innovative design also means that there are no bags to purchase or disgusting filters to replace.
I do have one small beef with the Dyson. Being a taller than average man (6’4”) I was disappointed that there was not an extendible handle that would better suit my height. The absence of this feature means that sometimes I feel hunched over using this product. The extremely light weight of the vacuum does make up for the inconvenience of the handle not being extendible.
This is a superior vacuum, but one must weigh the high cost ($400 - $500) when thinking about replacing the vacuum. Even though I believe in the product’s merits, it would be tough for me to spend the money on this vacuum if I hadn’t received it as a gift. For consumers with multiple pets or small children who are vacuuming on a more regular basis, this product’s ease of use may make it a warranted purchase.
