pencilneck's Full Review: Dyson DC25 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
I've been using the Dyson DC25 now for about 4 weeks. Setting it up the first time isn't too hard, the instructions could be better, but in less than 5 mintues I was ready to go.
I have a long haired cat. You couldn't see any hair on the floor. The first time I vacuum up a rug, it looked like another cat got vacuumed up into the container, there was a very large fur ball spinning around. I had to empty the container 4 times the first time I vacuumed the house. With each use (once a week), the amount of dirt picked up was less and less and now I vacuum the whole house and not need to empty the container until I'm finished.
My old vacuum, a bag type, spewed out dust every time it was used, I could smell dust in the air and see it spraying out in the sunlight. With the Dyson, there is no dust smell and I've not seen any dust getting kicked up. Should note that the first couple of times using it, some oils on the electric motor will burn off, so you'll smell that a little, this is normal.
To empty out the container is pretty simple, I suggest doing it outside and then wipe it down with a damp rag.
The one big issue I have is the hose. It is an expanding hose, but with the force of the vacuum, the hose doesn't want to expand, so you have to fight the hose to strech it out when using it, and the amount of force needed is greater than what the vacuum cleaner weigths. So using the hose can take some effort.
I guess I should also note that the power cord gets a tad warm to the touch, this suggest to me that a larger gauge wire should be use for the current demand that is being placed on the power cord.
The price is a bit of an issue, but then again, you don't have to purchase bags, so over time that helps out.
