Pros:ultimate party game, more selection, customization, stylish, excellent song list
Cons:need a bigger living room
The Bottom Line: The best multi player party game ever. :)
RockBand came on as competition for the popular Guitar Hero franchise with more than just guitars. RockBand caters to a more broad spectrum of fans who don't want to be restricted to just guitars and want more out of the multi-player function. RockBand enables guitar, bass guitar, drums, and vocals so the guitarist can't steal the spotlight anymore. No one man show stealer here!

Each instrument comes with it's own "format" of play. Since I'm a sucker for guitar, I can't really give a good opinion on vocals and drums. When it comes to guitar and bass guitar, however, the layout and tabs are much more cleaner and organized than Guitar Hero's "circles."
The game's difficulty is a bit lighter than Guitar Hero's as well. Hard on RockBand is pretty much Guitar Hero's Medium, so if you're looking for more of a challenge when it comes to songs I recommend sticking to Guitar Hero.
Guitar Hero's song list compared to RockBand's unfortunately looks very poor. RockBand's song list a bit more broad with more "current" artists and has a larger selection to choose from in general. There are a few songs which are in both games, such as The Strokes' "Reptilia", but RockBand's list and the option to download even more songs knocks Guitar Hero's selection out of the water.
Another awesome feature that puts Guitar Hero in second place is that you can customize your own characters! You can customize gender, hair, clothes, and even tattoos. What's even more awesome is that RockBand plugs real artists and studios (such as NY Adorned) by letting you select their tattoos to put on your character. This makes the game extremely more fun when you have more options with everything.
All in all, this is the ultimate party game. Grab a friend--or three or four--and get ready to ROCK OUT!!
