Pros: Nice to be able to change only the color needed.
Cons: Expensive Ink, Cartridge not recyclable
The Bottom Line: I would still probably recommend using these ink cartridges as they do a good job and ink is just plain expensive no matter what brand you purchase.
gp4evr's Full Review: Color Ink Cartridge (T048920) for Epson Printer
I have used These Epson Stylus Photo R200 Printer ink Cartridges for my Epson printer for about 3 years. The cartridges are very easy to change and the quality of the ink is very good in all my print jobs.
I especially like the fact that you have 6 different color cartridges to change, so if you are out of just one ink color that is all you need to change, not a whole cartridge that contains all of the colors and has plenty of ink left except for one color.
Unfortunately as most people have discovered, printers are really quite affordable.....it is the cost of ink that is high.
There are ink refill companies that will refill ink cartridges for many different printers for a discounted price, however, this particular ink cartridge is not listed as one that can refilled. It is not even accepted back for recycling as are many other ink cartridges. Office Depot told me that this cartridge is a tank and therefore is not recyclable.
One other important thing I have experienced in using these ink cartridges is that my printer always tells me I need to change them a long time before they actually run out of ink. So I never change a low cartridge until it is completely out of ink and the printer will no longer print without a new ink cartridge being installed.
I think changing the ink cartridges when the printer says it is needed results in an even higher cost and waste of ink as there has always been plenty of ink left to print dozens more pages before actually running out.
I have found that buying my ink cartridges from Sam's club has been the best deal. I can buy a combination package that has all 6 colors ( black, cyan, lt cyan, magenta, lt magenta & yellow) for $59.84 which works out to approx. $10.00 per ink cartridge. Staples and Office Depot do not sell a package with all the colors together....you can buy a package there with 5 colors (cyan, lt cyan, magenta, lt magenta & yellow)...at the moment I can't recall the price for this combo package, but it was not as good a deal as the Sam's Club price for their combo package with all 6 colors. Staples & Office Depot also sell the individual cartridges with pricing at $17.99 for black and $12.99 for the color.
It seems that black is the color that runs out most often and if I only bought the combination package at Sams Club I would soon find myself with a lot of extra color cartridges and short on black, so every so often I will order several black cartridges from Epson online at $17.09 each and with an order of at least 3 ink products I receive free shipping.
The Epson Stylus R200 ink cartridges will work with the Epson Stylus R200, the R300, the R320, the RX500 and the RX600 Photo All-in-one. The official Epson site lists that each of these cartridges, black and color, will yield 450 printed pages at 5%.
Yes, It seems to me that Epson Printer Ink, and other brands of ink for that matter, are more expensive than gasoline. But I find that I am willing to pay for it because I enjoy being able to print my projects myself. Whenever I can, I use the draft option in my printer software and this also helps extend the life of my ink cartridges.
