When given the task of building a low cost but high quality server for the school I teach at, I immediately started to research motherboards. At first, I was not interested in an Athlon system because I heard that the K7 motherboards with AMD chipset were "buggy". However, when I saw Via had designed a new chipset that was faster and more reliable than the AMD, I got excited. In addition, the price of the board was within my very small budget. I have used Via chipsets with PIII's and K6-2's and was very impressed. I decided to build the server with the board using a K7-600 which at the time was much cheaper than the 700+ CPUs. It also is using just 64MB of SDRAM.
Currently, the board has been working in a server since April of 2000 and has only been shutdown a few times for power outages. It is running Windows NT server and is incredibly stable. No system crashes to date and it is used heavily to store student documents and files all day long in a large high school. This board is highly recommended for people who need quality.
The board comes with UDMA66 support as well as on-board SB16 sound. Hardcore gamers can easily disable the on-board sound and use their own card but the chipset is not bad and will suffice for most users.
