Pros: Relaxed atmosphere, good to great food, decent value - all round enjoyable.
Cons: Haven't come across one yet after 5 visits.
The Bottom Line: I love this place. The atmosphere, the food - it all works so well together.

I've eaten at E&O San Jose on 5 occasions now, usually on a 1st or 2nd date, and it has never failed me. The menu may appear somewhat limited but even as a fairly frequent patron I have still yet to try everything. Maybe this is because I just cannot go to E&O without having the Cambodian Lettuce Cups. The shredded pork and shiitake mushrooms get me every time.
My most recent visit was on a Wednesday evening - made my reservation painlessly via OpenTable - and the restaurant was busy but not heaving which allowed for the modicum of privacy I generally seek if on a dinner date. As the place wasn't overflowing we managed to get a booth which was a first for me and in future I will seek a similar seating arrangement.
My date was a first timer to E&O so I took on the responsibility for ordering a number of small dishes that I thought would be 'middle of the road enough' for her - not too spicy/not too bland. We had nan bread (she loved it), prawn satays (she loved it), Cambodian Lettuce Cups (we both loved them), the fish cakes (decent but not as good as usual), the trademark corn fritters (I guess these maybe an acquired taste - I like them anyway) and the Indonesian Fried Rice (so good that what was left went home with us!!!!!).
As I was ordering I thought that maybe this could be too many dishes but it turned out to be pretty close to 'just right'. Missing lunch may have helped!!! After an hour and a half of good food, good company and a relaxing atmosphere we left happy and content - and E&O had won over another new customer. The check was a bit on the heavy side but then again we did have 6 dishes and a couple of drinks. All in all a good experience and one I will be repeating.
