| sschlundt's Full Review: Earl E. Bird |
Being new parents, my husband and I had no idea about a lot of things when it came to infants. Toys were no exception. So, when we received the Earl E. Bird as a gift for our three month old daughter, we had no idea what we were getting! Earl may seem like a mere toy bird to the casual observer, but to my husband and myself, Earl has been a lifesaver!
There are so many things to love about this toy. Seeing as how there is nothing negative to say, let's start with the positives.
*Bright and Colorful Patterns*
Earl is made up of very bright and contrasting colors - just the kind of visuals necessary to stimulate the ever-so-curious mind of an infant. His body is a bright yellow (the color of Tweety Bird). His "wings" are wavy striped with blue and purple on one side and orange and pink on the other. Earl's plastic ring-like hands are red and the same Tweety Bird yellow. Earl also has two brightly colored jointed legs. The upper joints are blue with yellow polka-dots and green and blue checks. The lower joints are solid bright pink and black and white stripes. Of course, he also has two feet. One is blue while the other is aqua-marine. The finishing touches are Earl's orange beak topped off with his orange tuft on top of his head. Oh yeah, and don't forget his bright red tail!
*Makes Cool Noises*
If you squeeze his tummy, Earl squeaks. Our daughter loves that squeak. It always gets her attention. She begins kicking her feet and moving her mouth when she hears him. It's almost as if he calls to her, "Hey, Emily, wanna play?" She cannot squeeze him herself yet, but she does seem to like it when someone makes Earl squeak for her.
Earl's wings, tail, and aqua-marine foot all contain crinkly material. I don't know what it is about that stuff, but Emily loves it. She likes to squeeze it in her own hands to hear the crinkle sound.
*Different Textures*
Earl's different textures are good for stimulating an infant's sense of touch. Earl is very soft. However, he is not made of the same material all over. His blue foot has raised nubs on it. Parts of his legs and wings are made of a flat cotton material, while his body, beak, tail, and part of his leg are made of made of a slightly fuzzier material. He also has plastic rings on the ends of his wings. These are great for a baby to grab in his/her hands and to chew on.
*Durable*
The only reason I bring up durable is because we have two miniature schnauzers, one of which still likes to take toys that aren't his own. Hence, I use the term durable when referring to Earl. Our younger dog has gotten to Earl a few times. Luckily, Earl has survived with no damage. And as our daughter gets older, and might play a little 'rougher' with her toys, I think Earl E. Bird will stand up to that test also. Earl is also machine washable, and he has been washed a few times with no damage.
There are many reasons to love Earl E. Bird. He has been a great learning toy for our daughter. He has always been Emily's favorite toy. Besides his great colors, textures and sounds, he also is very easy for her to grasp with her little hands. They fit right around Earl's legs, and she can also hold him by a ring or by his beak. Earl E. Bird is definitely worth the price and will make a great toy for any infant.
