Pros: Got it on sale for really cheap
Cons: my babies don't like it!
The Bottom Line: One twin liked it, the other one didn't. If you can find it on sale, it is worth a shot. But, at full price, I'd keep on walking.

Baby food is expensive, especially when you have twins. Organic baby food is even more expensive. So, when I saw that several flavors of Earth's Best was on sale for $0.30 a jar, I jumped all over it and bought several jars - even though my twins were just 2 months old at the time. After all, the baby food doesn't expire until 2010. What is the difference if I buy some jars early and keep them at home?
One of the first jars of baby food I purchased was Earth's Best First Bananas. Since my daughter, Catherine, seems to like the sweet taste of Mylicon, I thought that she would go nuts over the bananas. And my son, Charles, is just a little gavoon, so I figured that he would love the bananas, too.
Unfortunately, this was not the case.
The first thing I noticed about Earth's Best First Bananas was the color when I opened it. Instead of being a creamy yellow color, the baby food was a peachy-pink. Compared to other brands, I found this a bit unsettling. Then again, it may be this color because the bananas are organic.
The second thing I noticed was that they didn't really smell like bananas, either... They smelled more like bananas and citrus. This must be because of the added citric acid.
The third thing I noticed was the taste. I make sure to taste all of my baby's food before feeding it to them to make sure it tastes okay. The Earth's Best First Bananas didn't really taste like pure bananas, which is what I expected. They were a bit tart, which I attribute to the acid that is added. I didn't care for the taste, but I figured that one of the twins might.
It was worth a shot, either way. I would let the babies decide if they liked them or not. According to my mom, you should try to give a baby a type of food three different times before deciphering whether they like the taste or not. The first time, both twins gagged on the first spoonful. They both spit out the second spoonful. Neither would try the third spoonful. The second sitting I tried feeding them Earth's Best First Bananas, they both gave the same reaction.
The third time, however, was different for Catherine. While Charlie had the same reaction as the first two times he tried the Earth's Best First Bananas, Catherine actually seemed to enjoy them. Mom's three tries rule worked.
The fact that it is organic is terrific. This means that you can be certain that there are no pesticides or chemicals in the baby food. Since it is organic, I can almost look past the incredibly high cost. One 2.5oz jar usually sells for $0.90. I found them at Stop & Shop for $0.30 per jar. At that price, it is definitely worth a shot.
