Pros: 10 years and still going strong like the day I bought it.
Cons: Not for everyone. Machine will kick back at you.
I have had my Earthquake Earth Auger 8900E for six years now. Since during the coarse of a year I plant hundred of shrubs, flowers and trees either for my customers or changing the landscape at my own home.
Getting to know this machine and and learning it's good and bad points will take time. It can be use by one person or two people at one time. I would recommend that you use it yourself to learn the feel of it.
When this auger hits a rock in the ground the arm handle will kick back into your rib cage. After a few times of this I leaned into the handle to absorb it faster and this way the machine will not kick as much. It also will kick hard enough that you will be forced to let go of the handle and watch the auger machine top to go in a few 360 circles. The gear ratio is 30:1 giving it the torque you need for those deeper holes.
Getting this machine started is very easy. The choke on the engine side is a red lever that when pointed down is in full choke mode. Give the carburetor bubble a few squirts then pull the rope. If it does not start on first time lift choke up to the top and try it again.
This Earthquake Earth Auger 8900E boosts a 49cc engine that still starts at two pulls of the rope after 6 years. Its 12 ounce gas tank will let you perform your duties well into the day before refueling. The 10 inch auger has a digging rate of four feet in depth. You can also make your hole wider just by leaning it at a angle. The auger bit is spring loaded to help manage those shocks when hitting rocks and to give you better torque when digging. The auger has a rating of 200 rpms a minute.
I truly can not express enough on the safety of this machine. It is a real work horse. You will need head phones for ear protection because this machine is very loud. Also safety glasses and wear work boots too. The fuel used on this machine should be 3 parts gas, one part two stroke engine oil.
This machine is good at digging holes for, fence posts, deck footers, trees, shrubs, flowers, and what ever else you need holes for.
This Earthquake Earth Auger 8900E weighs just 22 pounds and the side handles will give you enough comfort to perform the tasks ahead of you. It comes with a 2 year warranty for parts and labor.
