denutter's Full Review: Eas Myoplex Nutrition Shake
I am one of those people that can't eat the same thing more than two days in a row, but I can down these shakes everyday! I have been drinking Myoplex shakes for about 13 years now. Keep in mind, this refers to Myoplex Original, not deluxe or lite. They come in Choc, Vanilla, and Strawberry. I am also lactose intollerant and these shakes are completely lactose free.
A hand blender is a must because a shaker just won't cut it and who wants to wash a conventional blender. If you mix this with milk, it becomes quite a bulky meal. Stick with water and ice. With a little practice, you will find the right measurements that yeild your preferred consistency. Its amazing that with just 2 grams of sugar, these shakes will satisfy your sweet tooth. If you are in the mood for some variety, try adding frozen fruits/berries, peanut butter, honey, or bananas to the vanilla shake. I've tried adding things to the chocolate and strawberry shakes, but the vanilla does best due to its neutral flavor.
I'll tell you about myself because when I read the other reviews, I couldn't tell if the reviewers were bodybuilders or average joe's. I go in phases where I will lift weights five days a week, eat right and live healthy. Or on the flipside, I won't workout for months, will eat terrible and party hard every weekend. My goal is to continuously add bulk and hopefully get lean in the process. I would consider myself an average joe (6' 225 lbs. - probably 25lbs overweight) that is a wanna be bodybuilder.
It is amazing that in only 280 calories, you can get 42 grams of quality protein that tastes incredible. All this while keeping carbs down to 23 grams. It is almost impossible to match those numbers with conventional food. If you take into account all of the vitamins and nutrients contained in these shakes, this is the perfect engineered nutrition. Did I mention this tastes better than any other shake on the market. Having a shake for breakfast will easily hold you over until lunch. They can also be used as a guilt free late night snack/meal. As taco bell calls it, the fourth meal. On work days, I make two shakes in the morning but split into three containers. The first portion I have immediatly for breakfast, the second is at the office around 10am. This curbs your lunch time hunger cravings and encourages a healthy lunch. Finally the third portion is consumed around 2-3pm. On days where I follow this regiment, I am never hungry and have an abundance of energy all day long.
I have done a lot of research on the breakdown of nutrients and contacted EAS engineers regarding this topic. The verdict is, if you make the shakes ahead of time, you must keep them cold and they must be consumed within 8 hours. This nutrient breakdown is common to all shakes.
As far as cost, my goal is to get as close to $1/packet. Just do some research on the internet and you will find varying prices. The conventional stores or gyms can't compete with the online retailers. Remember, if you can get these for around $1 each, you are getting a good deal.
If you are a bodybuilder, you don't need me to convince you. If you are an average Joe, this is an ideal supplement to your diet, especially if you are a vegetarian or not getting enough protein.
