The Bottom Line: Great all-round harness that should appeal to novices and experts alike. Comfy, light, compact and versatile - what more could you ask for? Perfect.
I have had a petzl Corax for the last 3 years and always found it to be a great all round harness. It's only real drawback was that it is quite heavy and bulky compared to some others. The Adjama has most of the features of the Corax, but with less weight and a more compact design. I was a little sceptical how much difference this would make, but having used it for a few weeks I can say that I am amazed.
The balance between comfort and freedom of movement is almost perfect. The harness is noticeably less restrictive than the Corax. My personal feeling is that this is more to do with a reduction in the width of the padding (i.e volume), rather than the weight. It is very easy to 'forget' that the harness is there! :) At the same time, the padding is still sufficient that I felt no discomfort whilst belaying. I have yet to try it in a hanging stance, but I think that it would be fine. Personally, I prefer the 'snugger' fit of this device - it feels more reassuring.
There's ample storage options and racking for outdoors should not be a problem. I have yet to purchase any caritool's, but the possibility of extending its capabilities is also welcome.
I have yet to find any major "drawbacks", but I think that the adjustment on the leg loops is less than the Corax. I have larger thighs and I'm not sure it would accommodate winter clothing underneath. Petzl don't market this harness as an adjustable, so I guess this is down to each individuals requirements. It also lacks the double buckles, which may mean the harness ends up off-centre if you are at the extremes of the sizing ranges.
Overall, a great addition to the Petzl range and the best harness I have owned so far.
