Pros: My daughter has fun with it and loves to be like mommy.
Cons: Time consuming and she needs constant supervision.
The Bottom Line: Although this is one of my daughters favorite toys, I am not sure that it is one that is going to last very long.

| Debbietipton's Full Review: Easy-Bake Oven and Snack Center |
For Christmas last year my six year old daughter received the Easy Bake Oven as a gift and it has been cookies, cakes and goodies for us ever since. Now I know that this particular toy is not recommended for children under eight, my Megan is a very responsible six year old and so her father and I thought that she was up to having the toy. I must admit, though, that although this is a very fun toy for her, it is not one that I would ever let her use alone. Why? You might ask. Well, here are three of my top reasons:
1.) The oven itself can become very hot. This is not only true of the inside, but of the top, back, and sides as well.
2.) I want to make sure that Megan does not touch any part of the oven which would cause her to suffer from and electrical shock. She needs to be careful with water around it and not to touch the side while in use.
3.) We always need to make sure that she has unplugged her unit when finished so as not to cause any damage to the toy or cause any other hazards that could occur from leaving the Easy Bake plugged in.
Each Easy Bake Oven Set comes with the following:
1.) Oven
2.) Cake Mix
3.) Cookie Mixes
4.) Baking Pans
5.) Cooking Utensils
6.) Warmer Cover
7.) Warming Cups
8.) Pan Pusher
To work your Easy Bake you will need one 100-watt light bulb. This needs to be pretty specific as anything higher or lower will cause the unit not to work properly. At one time I tried to use a 60-watt bulb because it was all that I had around and it just blew in a matter of minutes. It is also recommended that you not use a soft whit or a high efficiency bulb. I am not quite sure what happens with these, but after the 60-watt deal, I figured I would not even try.
Most of the time, my daughter uses the kits that are made to use with the Easy Bake. These include such things as cookies, brownies, and cake mixes. They provide enough for one or two servings and are easy for your child to use. I have found that if they like to use their ovens often that this can become quite expensive though. To get around this, Megan and I have found other things to use.
Some of the things that we do are as follows:
1.) When I bake a cake or some cookies, I give some of the dough to Meg and she bakes it off in her oven.
2.) I purchase some of the frozen cookie dough and let my daughter use this in her oven. It makes more and is far less costly. It takes a little more time, but everything always turns out well.
3.) We purchase ready mix cakes, which are much the same as what would come in the Easy Bake labels. Again, this makes more and is much cheeper. We just add water and bake. What we do not need we store in an air tight container until next time.
I am so happy that we found this little toy for my daughter. She likes to think of it as practicing for the future or helping mommy by making dessert. If you have a daughter and want to see her through hours of fun and enjoyment, I suggest picking up this toy. It is also a great learning and time together experience.
Happy Baking
