yarrick's Full Review: Ed Reed #20 Baltimore Ravens Replica Jersey by Ree...
Yeah I said it best saftey.
The 24th overall pick in the 2002 draft has become an iconic player on the Ravens team and a future hall of famer. Ed Reed came to the Ravens from "the U" the University of Miami and is their ball hawking safety. As Ravens fan say "in Ozzie we trust" referring to Ozzie Newsome the GM of the Ravens. Ozzie has had a knack for selecting great players in the first round, especially later on. In 2002 he was able to get the Ravens Reed. To give you an idea of some of the players who were selected prior to Ed Reed there was David Carr, Joey Harrington, Roy Williams (the safety), Javon Walker, Dwight Freeney, Daniel Graham, and Albert Haynesworth.
As you can see there are plenty of busts in there as well as some great defensive players. However I wouldn't trade Reed for any of them. When you have Ed Reed back deep on your defense you just feel that the ball hawking safety could somehow end up with the ball in the hands and taking it to the house at any moment. Over his career Ed has made reservations for six 13 times. He hasn't done it in just one style though he has 7 interception returns, 3 blocked punt returns, 2 fumble returns, and 1 punt return. He is also a member of Sporting News' Magazines Team of the Decade for the 2000s as well as being the NFL's defensive player of the year in the past. There are so many other great accomplishments I could continue to list about the player Ed Reed. However I bet you are starting to wonder about the jersey huh? Let's get on with the review.
The Jersey
The reason I decided to go with a Ed Reed jersey is he isn't just great on the field but off of it as well. He isn't a loud outspoken person but on or off the field he is a great guy and speaks with his play. The jersey is the lovely purple of the Ravens. I'm comfortable enough in my masculinity to say that the Ravens purple jerseys are my favorite of the 3 options. Something about the purple and the way the gold outlined white numbers pop just make it look great.
My jersey is a large and the sizes are pretty big compared to your average shirt. So make sure you try it on if you are unsure. And keep a gift receipt if you are getting it for someone as a gift. The front of the jersey has Ravens in small print under the collar and the number 20 prominently on the chest. The bottom should have your Reebox/NFL patch stitched on. The sleeves have the Baltimore Ravens Maryland Insignia printed on along with the Reebox logo with the 20 appearing again by the shoulders.
The back of the jersey has the stitched on nameplate with Reed centered in all white. Underneath the big gold outlined 20 shines. As far as the makeup of the jersey it is mesh so generally you are going to want to have something on underneath of it. It gets cold during football season and this will not keep you warm. I've found that it isn't exactly comfortable wearing with nothing underneath anyway. The mesh tends to stick to your bare skin if you have nothing underneath. While this is a replica it looks just like you will see it on the field. And you get to save yourself some cash by paying only $45-70 for the replica compared to $150+ for an authentic jersey. While the authentic may have some better patches and stiching the replica is close enough to the real thing.
Washing Instructions
The jersey is 100% nylon and the tag comes with full washing instructions in several languages. You are supposed to machine wash this cold separately, with non chlorine bleach, drying on tumble with low heat only when needed. Don't hate me but I generally don't do my own laundry. Although I am sure that these directions haven't been looked at prior to washing. That being said the jersey is still in excellent shape despite me owning it for years and the instructions for washing it not being followed. Do not iron or dry clean your jersey though.
Why this jersey?
The purple is the color that is most thought about with the Ravens and Ed Reed is one of the teams all time players along with Ray Lewis and Jonathan Ogden. You can't go wrong with this jersey if you are getting it for a fan of the team as they will definitely know Ed Reed, they may or may not know some of the other players. Thanks for taking the time to read my review, I hope you pick up a jersey and support the team if you are a fan. Let's go Ravens!
