| gypsyrose75's Full Review: Eddie Bauer Booster Seat |
Upon researching more of the Car Seat Categories, I found an error in my placement. I apologize for any inconvenience this has placed on anyone. But I did not feel right in belittling an item I did not own or have experience with. Thank You.
My youngest is now growing faster and faster, and with that comes new clothes, age appropriate toys and car seat to fit. That last trip to Sears required a lot of time. We were moving and new clothes, shoes, entertaining items, and yes, his car seat was a must.
My older boys never had booster seats. They just out-grew their car seat at 40# and they sat on the seat. Now you can afford boosters to ensure your child's safety with ease.
My youngest hit 40# at 20 months, and his length was far over the recommended size for the standard seat anymore. I was determined to find one that would hold his size for more than a few months and be comfortable for the 4,000 mile trip we were about to embark on.
Sears had a variety to choose from. From Cosco, Evenflo and any other name you could think of. This one stood out. Eddie Bauer is notorious for their name. With quality, and guaranteed satisfaction. I am not one to purchase just for faddish name, but must have much more than a 'kool' reputation behind it.
It was a good thing I had settled on this one, because the moment my son caught eye of this he plopped his butt right in the display one.
Appearance
Light tan for the main coloring. Soft felt texture and there seems to be an added padding woven in it as well. You can't have enough cushion when making a trip like this. The sides are trimmed in a Forrest Green. Though it does not match my decor, its very elegant looking. Also good tight stitching, no stray strings to unravel. By looking at it, very sharp and built to last.
The sides are in a circular shape, not just flat back. This was a big plus for me. His previous car seat was perfectly flat. When he fell asleep in the seat, his head would hang completely to one side looking as if it will roll off any minute. When he awoke, he was totally cranky from a crimped neck. I didn't want him suffering on this drive, or future trips, any more than necessary.
Safety
With a 5 point harness, it put my mind at ease. He is also agile enough that performing the Houdini act would be easy to him. So I thought for sure, this has to be harder to get out of. Nothing is more horrifying to a parent when driving 75mph down the interstate when you look back and see your child out of their seat frolicking around.
Though he can still get out of this, as all things are not child proof, it definitely makes it not worth the battle. He has to wiggle and jiggle so much that by the time he is half way out, he is caught and put back in his place. Since the first time, he has not tried it. Just not worth it!
Two adjustable slots for height seating. The plastic clip that goes over the chest is cheaply made. I am having to repeatedly bend it back to keep clasped. On each top side is plastic (removable) car belt slits for the booster use.
There are two metal clips that fit well into the buckle. I like this because his previous seat was too tight and pinched his legs. The heat inside the vehicle would heat it up, and a few times, cause red burn marks. (I swear, this last car seat was a torture device used years ago.) The buckle is not adult proof either. Nothing worse than fighting for 10 minutes to get your child out for a 5 minute shopping spree.
The weight capacity is 80 pounds as booster, and 40 for car seat.
As car seat it has proven its safety. As booster, I am just not ready to let him try and get out of that.
Use
Take out of box, already assembled, strap into vehicle. I sit on the seat, then feed the safety belt through the back to ensure tightness. I don't like taking a corner and the seat taking the Detroit Lean.
To adjust the tightness just pull the string sticking out of the front base. Unable to loosen with out lifting tab for car seat feature. Booster, undo seat belt.
Features
Though its very appealing to look at, even stylish for a child, cleaning is a complete pain. It stains easier than any white shirt. The fabric, though soft, absorbs as soon as anything is spilled. To get out dry food that has been buried under their diaper butt after a trip, takes commercial strength cleaner. Just wipe, vacuum and go is not this seat/booster.
~ Arm Rests molded in on each side
~ Cup Holder (removable)
~ Snack Holder (removable)
~ Mesh Attached bag to tote their favorite items. Large enough to hold a small book, or toy without over reaching.
~ Pillow (removable) that velcro's on the back of the seat. It has the "EB" emblem and matches the coloring. Plush and soft, but erects the head up to high so its not exactly comfortable.
Though it sounds like I am overall pleased with this, I am not. The cost, which I do not believe was more than name endorsement. The seat without the name is just a normal car seat/booster. The accessories it comes with are unused. The material though attractive, is not practical.
My child loves this, but he is not concerned with efficiency, cost and practicality. He just wants to know if he can sleep in it and get out!
