marybatson's Full Review: Eddie Bauer Weekender Diaper Bag
Are you looking for an outstanding diaper bag at a decent price? The Eddie Bauer Weekender Diaper Bag is designed well; it looks smart, and is easy on the wallet. When selecting my first diaper bag I spent a moment, or two down memory lane. There I was 7-months pregnant, mouth agape, staring at half a dozen shelves crammed with baby gear. Protruding in splendor, I began to recall the many days, and nights spent watching my nieces and nephews. The horrors of bad bags began to flood my mind. All of the sudden, I started to formulate the essentials for my perfect bag.
1. Durable 1-quality bag is preferred to 2 or 3 inferior bags.
2. Large is key two-year old diapers occupy twice the space as newborn diapers.
3. Washable or waterproof Dirty diapers. Need I say more?
4. Lightweight Consider the load, a baby, a purse, a diaper bag, a breast pump...
5. Dark color Dark colors show less wear.
6. Unisex Bunnies would do nothing for my sense of style, or my husbands for that matter.
7. Shoulder strap versus backpack Personal preference.
The Eddie Bauer Weekender Diaper Bag is extremely well thought-out, and wears well. It is not the lightest bag on the market, but that's due to its size, not its construction. It's big, but not cumbersome. The Accessory Pouch is more than enough, while the main compartment of the bag is roomy. When William was an infant, I carried 10 diapers, a box of wipes, burp cloths, an insulated bottle tote, board books, toys, and a change of clothes in this bag. Two years later, the bag still looks new. To be fair, I am a stay-at-home mom; hence, I do not put my baby gear to the test as other parents might. Nevertheless, I'm active, and this bag has been carted around a lot.
Favorite Feature:
Removable Plastic Pouch
The Removable Plastic Pouch is made of heavy-duty plastic, and is ample in size. Measuring 8" x 14", the clear pouch fastens to the inside of the bag via Velcro. This very clever design allows for dirty diapers, wet clothes, or liquid items that might make a mess if spilled. I used this pouch almost daily, and I praise the designers for their insight into parents world.
Least Favorite Features:
Foldout Changing Pad
Initially this feature worked well, because it is attached to the bag, so one does not need to go digging for it. Once it is unzipped, and unfolded it makes a nice cushion for a little persons bum. On the other hand, as my son grew, it became awkward to employ. This feature ended up adding bulk to the bag, which is no added bonus.
Mesh Bottle Holder
This facet of the bag is designed for bottles that are small in diameter, such as what Evenflo offers. I used Avent bottles, which are much larger in circumference, so this aspect was of no use for my bottles, but it sure came in handy for storing socks. I used a bottle tote since I expressed my milk, which needed to be chilled. As a result, I would not have used this holder to store bottles, even if it was large enough. I mention this as I think it is a flaw in the design.

UPDATE ~ 5/25/04:
I am still using this bag for overnight stays, and weekends away to store pull-ups, snacks, and a change of clothes. I am as pleased with this bag now, as I was when I received it at my baby shower 3-years ago. The Eddie Bauer Weekender Diaper Bag provides many extras for the money. If I were shopping for a diaper bag today, I would certainly take a chance on this one.
Happy Diapering ~☺~
