bmcnichol's Full Review: Educational Insights Flip Tac Toe
My son received Educational Insights Flip-Tac-Toe a few years ago as a birthday present. We still play the game occasionally.
Out of the box Flip-Tac-Toe comes with a game board, sixty four foam chips (sixteen orange chips, sixteen green chips, sixteen yellow chips and sixteen blue chips) and game rules.
Flip-Tac-Toe is recommended for children six and up and requires two to four players to play. It does not require batteries or reading skills.
Let’s play.
To begin a game, each player chooses a color to be and takes all the foam chips in that color.
The game is played like tic-tac-toe but with a few added twists. The first player places a chip on any empty space on the game board. The game board has sixteen squares on it.
The second player has a few more options. They can place a chip on an empty space or they can stack a chip. They do this by placing their chip on top of any other chip on the board. You can place up to four chips on top of each other.
Other options for the players are to flip a stack over. If a stack has two to four chips on it you can flip the stack so that the bottom chip is now the top chip. Stacks can be flipped unlimited times. When flipping the stack, the chips must remain in order. At no time can you unstack the chips.
On your turn you can also move a chip or stack. You can move any chip or stack on the board to any other space or pile of chips (just remember you cannot have more than four chips on any pile). When moving a stack, all the chips must be moved together. You cannot move just the top chip. You can move your chips or anyone else’s.
If anyone runs out of chips while playing, they continue playing by moving chips already on the board.
The person who gets three top chips of his or her color in a row vertically, horizontally or diagonally is the winner.
My son received this as a gift but I did find it online for $21.99. Personally I think that is a bit expensive for this game. Even though we think it is a fun game, I don’t’ think I would have paid that much money for it. It is actually a game that you could make yourself.
We have enjoyed Educational Insight’s Flip-Tac-Toe for many years now. It has held up to play. If you have a dog beware. If your dog is like ours, she thinks the colored discs are for her to play with.
I enjoy playing Flip-Tac-Toe as is requires more thought and strategy then a regular game of tic-tac-toe.
Educational Insight's Flip-Tac-Toe would make a good gift. As I stated earlier, I do think it is a bit expensive but I am sure you can find it on sale.
As a family we would recommend Educational Insight’s Flip-Tac-Toe as it is flipping fun.
