Pros: Only one tablet each day required.
Cons: I can not be at my most alert when using this product.
The Bottom Line: One of the better over-the-counter allergy reliefs out there. This is the timed-release 'cousin' of Chlor-Trimeton.

| Mrsfitts's Full Review: Efidac 24 Chlorpheniramine |
When I was a child during the early 1960's, the parents in my neighborhood only took their children to the hospital if it couldn't be fixed at home. Without a medical diagnosis, my parents assumed I had a 9 month cold each year. The symptoms were close: Sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, plugged ears. What they couldn't see was that my throat and ears had an insane itch in them. And they didn't seem to notice that as soon as Winter hit, my cold went away.
When I finally got diagnosed with Allergies or Hay Fever in the 1970's, I was sent through rigorous testing. What turned out was that I was severely allergic to just about anything living. And the 21 allergy shots each week I was getting weren't doing a thing for how miserable I was every Spring when all the Flowers, Trees and Shrubs, were in bloom, and all the animals were having litters, puppies, kittens, gaggles, and so on.
All this wouldn't be so bad except: I love plants and animals! I am an awesome gardener in my own right, and I currently have three geriatric dogs (Cats will always be too much for me to handle).
I have used just about every Over The Counter allergy remedy known to man. If the pharmaceuticals really wanted to know if their product worked, they should've hired me.
Unfortunately, back in the 1970's, when I would suffer severely from allergies, my only 2 options were to either Suffer or Sleep. Antihistamines for the most part make me very sleepy.
I liked Efidac 24 Chlorpheniramine because instead of bombarding my system with a large dosage of the antihistamine: Chlorpheniramine like Chlor-Trimeton Allergy , the dosage was time-released. The product states that there is an initial large dosage released, and then the rest is released evenly over the 24 hour period. This helped with the overly groggy feeling, and when I started taking it an hour before bed time, I was kept medicated against the worst of the allergies during the day.
But there is NO antihistamine on the face of this earth right now that completely relieves all of my allergy symptoms. I will feel relief, but I will still have itchy eyes and sneeze frequently.
When I got into a job where I worked around dangerous chemicals and explosives, I asked my Allergy Specialist to prescribe me one of the newer antihistamines that don't make you drowsy. I got a presciption for Allegra. I LOVE this stuff! I wish that it had been created 30 years ago. But a monthly presciption can cost $80. The over the counter Chlorpheniramine in generic form cost about $5 per month.
Since I had the best results with the Efidac 24 Chlorpheniramine, I looked for a generic pill that could be taken in conjuction with my Allegra. I could no longer take the Efidac 24 Chlorpheniramine because of it's 24 time release properties. But I found it's active ingredient worked best -even though it made me drowsy. With the doctor's blessings, I take Allegra when I wake up, and the generic Chlorpheniramine at night.
For those of you who can not get/do not want the prescription Allegra or Claritin, the over the counter Efidac 24 Chlorpheniramine is a good alternative.
Not for children under 12, people with glaucoma, high blood pressure or breathing problems.
