Pros: Cute, attention getting looks, very comfortable, smooth riding, multi-gear
Cons: Heavy and shifter is cheap
I purchased this bike in San Diego for $350 last summer. I wanted a bike that was comfortable and also fun at the same time. I had a Specialized mountain bike at the time, but the seat was really uncomfortable after a 30 minute ride.
While in San Diego on vacation I saw lots of beach cruisers and then saw this Electra "Betty" that had to be the cutest thing in the world. Electra also had similar bike with a pink frame, but it looked like too-much.
The "Betty" is just the right amount of fun. It has a pearl white frame with pink and silver flames accenting the frame. The greatest part of this bike are the pink rims and dice valve covers. I ride this around town and get compliments every time.
Now, as for the details...
This bike rides very smoothly. The bike seat has springs that work really well. You hardly feel the bumps. It is a smooth ride that feels kind of like riding in a Cadillac (compared to the old mountain bike).
The bike frame is a bit heavy. It's hard to load the bike into the car - for trips, and it can get to be a bit of a challenge if you want to go up any steep hills.
The parts are Taiwanese made, but the price is right. I had a 3-gear shifter added on to my bike to make hills and general riding easier. The shifter is cheap, but since this bike is made for riding around town, fancy parts aren't needed.
I ride my bike usually 2-3 times/week and have had no problems. I ride it to the farmer's market, downtown to do shopping, and just for pleasure rides. It is a great multi-purpose bike. There is no need to spend lots of money on a mountain bike if all you are going to be doing is casual riding.
I love my Betty!
