if you're a serious gamer, and especially a serious sports gamer, you seem to find every flaw that a game has and then it eats at you each time that you pick up the controller. it may be that the passing is bad, or the guys don't make their blocks when you try to run. this game will outplay and keep you from being annoyed at the little problems that plague many other football games. i could make this very long and explain each and every detail, but there is way too much to mention. i'll try and hit some of the main points, and some of the things that have annoyed me about previous football games.
the first is player control. this game gives you the first idea of what it's like to actually be on the field. if you are playing with a slower guy, don't count on catching up to anyone. most games show speed on a player attributes, but when it comes down to the game, it really doesn't matter. in this game however, it does. it shows if your running back is fast and a d-lineman is chasing him to the corner, he rarely is caught. then there is the always annoying, pass-get out in open field-and the linebacker from 20 yards back somehow catches torry holt running down the sideline. not in this game! if you catch a ball, you're gone. that has always been a big problem in other games, and madden has found a way to make it more realistic. i love the fact that if you put the game on all-madden, it's very hard to beat. this is the first game i've ever played that was a challenge to play the computer. this gives the game a lot of replay value. i love all the game options you have. whether it is season, quick game, two-minute drill, practice, custom league, playoffs, or franchise this game does a great job of each option. the only flaws i would see in the game would have to be the lack of options with penalties. i'm not a big fan of holding. it is something that i can't control and the computer tends to choose the worst times to say that my o-line held someone 10 yards away from the play. the other problem is with the high snap when in shotgun formation. yes, i know this happens, but when you play allmadden it seems to happen all the time, and when there is a high snap, don't count on getting the ball off. the defensive line is on you as soon as your qb hits the ground. overall, this game is amazing and i will continue to play this yearround until 2003 comes out. kudos to nintendo and madden
