jnobcrew's Full Review: Madden NFL 2002 for PlayStation 2
Madden 2002 has done it again, clearly the best game out there. With all the options, you can never honestly "beat" the game. The graphics and game play are superb, and the newer tackling and receiving action is realistic. There are far too many ways to play to be listed here; however they are all different enough to keep you involved. With individual playbooks and personnel groups, the game clearly goes past fastest finger football. There is strategy and planning. My favorite game mode is the Franchise, where off-season decision making can take even the worst teams to Super Bowl caliber in a season or two. The two minute drill is a party type game, where up to 8 players accumulate arcade style points moving a team down the field during the two minutes of the half. All points are saved and makes for a fun afternoon. The tournament is a great way for friends to get together and show there stuff in a bracket style playoff.
The only negative I can see, is the defensive selections. There are not enough choices. For instance, there is not a Cover 3 in the 4-3 defense. There is also not a 46 type defense, nor is there very few zone blitz options. With zone blitzing being the rage in today's game, there should be more of that for sure.
Overall, it is a game that is unbeatable, and doesn't lose its luster shortly after the box is opened.
