Vilanova11's Full Review: NCAA Football 2002 for PlayStation 2
NCAA Football is without a doubt the best football game for Playstation 2, if not the best ever(I have yet to play Madden 2002). With the best graphics I have ever seen(including computer games) with the most realistic gameplay ever. The list goes on and on.
Like most football games, there is an exhibition, season, dynasty, and practice. I suggest starting off in the practice mode so you can get the hang of the controls(alittle hard to get at first) and get your first glimpse at the outstanding graphics. In the practice mode you can either practice by yourself or with another team(I suggest playing against the other team). You can choose to play offense, defense, or special teams. This is a very good mode to start off with, or to play in small time periods to improve your skills.
After you've perfected you air attack and ground game, you can move onto the exhibition mode. This is basically the same as the practice mode, except its a game and not a practice. I suggest watching the whole pre-game because it is by far the best part of exhibition. The only thing that disappointed me was that there is no legendary teams. After playing NCAA Gamebreaker 2001 and having legendary teams, I was expecting NCAA Football 2002 to have that feature too(since EA Sports is at least ten times better then 989 Sports), but it didn't. Thankfully, that is the only disappointment in the exhibition mode.
Season Mode is just what you would expect, you get to play through ONE season with any team of your choice. This includes bowl games at the end(if you are good enough to qualify).
If you only get this game for one reason, the Dynasty Mode should be that one reason. You start off with your choice of any of the 155 available teams(including about 25 1AA teams). You can customize the name and looks of yourself(the head coach of your choosen team). This mode also takes you through a season with any team of your choice(including bowl games). After the season is over, you get to choose if you want to stay with your current team, or switch to a different team. Once you have made that descision, you go into the off season. The main idea of the off season is to recruit the newest talents entering the NCAA. You have about 150-200 points that you can spend on recruiting. You can send either the head or assistant coach to a player or your head coach or assistant coach can give him a call. The more you communicate with the player, the better chance you have of getting him to go to your school. After the off season ends, the regular season starts again and the fun will start all over again.
To evaluate this game, it could take pages, so I will shorten it. The list of pros can go on forever, such as the graphics, realism, replay, and dynasty mode. In the game, you will see the coaches yelling at players, mascots dancing, players congragulating or yelling at each other. The tackles are about as real as it gets and so are the sounds(take it from me, I play football). The announcers tend to repeat some things, but it is nowhere as bad as some other games I have played(Gamebreaker 2001). The pre-game is groundbeaking for the exhibition mode, but there isn't much of a pre-game for the dynasty mode(unfortunatly). The list could go on and on, so find out yourself and buy NCAA Football 2002.
And of course no review would be complete without the cons. Though they were hard to find I did manage to find about two. The first I already mentioned, the announcer be alittle repetitive. And the second is that once and a while the game will slow down for about 2-3 seconds and continue normally. Though this doesn't effect the gameplay, it does get annoying sometimes(it doesn't happen much)
CLOSING STATEMENT- This will be the best football game you have ever played(yes, even better then NFL 2K1), so go out and buy it now!
