getgit.com's Full Review: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2002 for PlayStation 2
Tiger's Back
Now even if you don't enjoy Tiger himself, that's no reason not to try out this excellent EASports game. It's the most realistic golf simulation out on the Playstation2. I can't wait to see next year's installment. I never even liked golf or cared to understand it, until I played Tiger Woods 2001 last year over at a friend's house and then it happened. I became addicted, wanting to play more and more all the time. And when 2002 came out, my friend went and bought it right away. Only he didn't like the new game, so he let me "borrow" it. I've had it now for about 4 months and still find myself drawn to it, playing at any chance I get. You might wonder why my friend didn't like the new 2002 Tiger Woods, well I'll get to that a little later on but for now...
What I did Like.
No corny music, just the sounds of golf and the announcers (David Feherty and Bill Macatee) making their veteran commentary. Three real and three fantasy courses make for wide array of exciting game play. There are many real pro golfers as well as some made up ones to try and tee off against. I especially enjoy the create-a-player mode. This 2002 game features a brand new swing that's much improved since last years. I like the precision control the analog gives my swing. Another new and excellent improvement is the caddy tip, which I find truely helpful. There is a good amount of replay value as there is many different modes to play in like; lots of split screen two player modes to choose from, excellent character building challenges, and plenty of ways to earn money. How about pro PGA Tours, Speed Golf, Practice, Skins, stroke matches, and even scenarios to play out. Wow! This Playstation2's best golf game yet!
What My friend didn't like.
Well he got very used to playing the 2001 game so some of the changes he thought made the game a little too easy. Like the replacement of the playing field grid with the caddy tip. Even though I myself enjoy the caddy tip better. And he didn't like the new swing with the spin and turbo enhancements. I think they they work rather nicely. Either way, you're not going to find another golf game this realistic with such rich graphics and replay depth.
