| melyssa's Full Review: Electronic Sounds Activity Rocker |
My daughter received the Electronic Sounds Activity Rocker from her grandma for Christmas last year. I thought at first she wouldn't be interested in it because the recommended ages are 8-30 months and it looks rather baby-ish. My daughter was almost 15 months when she got it. However, it has proved to be among her favorite toys!
I assembled it myself which was rather easy to do and I am not very gifted in that area. I believe all I needed was a screwdriver. From what I remember the column and chair bolt onto the base and then the activity console attaches to the top of the column. It only took about ten minutes of my time and I didn't even have to tear any hair out.
What I like about this toy is that the activity console easily detaches from the base so that it's possible to take it with you in the car or just to play with around the house.
The console itself has a plastic storybook featuring three different songs. It opens up to "Farmer in the Dell". Turn a page and "Row Row Row Your Boat" and lastly "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Each story consists of two "pages" which are brightly and cheerily illustrated in cartoon style. The rest of the console features revolve around the nursery rhymes. The sounds made by the buttons and levers correspond with whatever song is currently playing. For example, the sounds lever on the far left emits a dog barking during "Farmer in the Dell", a dolphin squeaking during "Row Row Row Your Boat" and birds tweeting during "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". The ignition key makes engine starting sounds corresponding with a car, boat and airplane. The large yellow horn makes a car honking, boat horn and airplane sound. The purple lever on the right makes driving sounds for a car, boat and airplane. On top of the console is a flexible orange lever that makes a "BOING" sound. Another great feature is that if the unit is rocked hard enough, more sounds happen which are also dependent on which songs are playing. Such as water sounds for "Row Row Row Your Boat". There are also two handles in the top base for your little one to hold onto.
A feature that any parent would love is the volume control. There is a switch under the top base with loud or soft settings. It can also be turned off.
The seat has a built-in seatbelt but honestly we never saw the need for it. By the time my daughter was using this toy she was able to balance herself quite well. I would recommend it for younger babies though.
We keep this rocker in our tv room and my daughter uses it as a chair. She is often seen reclining in it while watching her favorite television shows in the morning. Sometimes she even takes her snacks and sippy cup with her. When we have other kids over to play, all of them have immediately taken to this toy. In fact, I have seen two kids sitting in it at once or even fights over who gets to sit in it alone.
