Pros: Great Value. Does exactly what you want.
Cons: Tiny hard disk. Subtitles not available for recordings.
The Bottom Line: I'm yet to find a worthy rival to this now aging product.

| mrtotes's Full Review: Elica Twin Stainless Steel Kitchen Hood |
I bought this device about 3 years and it has proved very good since.
It plugs in a sets up simply and the interface is far easier to use than other Freeview boxes I've used.
The Programme Guide goes out for a week and one touch of the record button will plan your week ahead. The only downside of the guide is that if you've had the box switched off it does take a while to refresh. You can't browse the guide with a channel still on.
The box is quiet (not silent) but never really noticable except when switching on or off.
The box has Twin Tuners so you can watch one show and record another. It also doesn't bar you from watching the show you're recording - a bizarre limtation I've encountered on another Freeview PVR.
The box has a 2.5" laptop size hard disk that is pitifully small. There's plenty of space in the box for a proper size and capacity drive so I don't know why they went with this option. I've seen numerous sites on the web that list people who've put larger than the 20Gb stock drive in. But with laptop PATA drives maxing out at 160Gb at this time you can't go about 80hrs.
The other limitation is that you must set the maximum length of 'Live Pause' when you set-up the box. This means that if you want to be able to press the pause button at any time you can have 30minutes, 1 hr or 2 hrs. This removes this space from your Recording Library space. I have Live Pause set to 2hrs ( for a match?) meaning I can only record 8 hrs in the library. The solution is to never use Live Pause but always "Record" a programme. You can watch a programme that hasn't finished yet so the only difference is that Pause ditches the programme as soon as you've watched it.
Subtitles are exceuted much more clearly than other Freeview boxes I've seen - but they aren't available on Recordings or Live Pause.
