MADYL's Full Review: Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick
I am addicted to lipsticks. I have fuller lips, and I need some type of lip color to brighten my face. My face looks ill without it. So for me, lipstick can make all of the difference in the world.
I currently have 9 different shades in my purse, and too many too name in my makeup bags. When it comes to lipstick, I want a brand that provides moisture, has beautiful colors, and is long wearing. Clinique’s Different Lipstick has a beautiful color selection, provides plenty of moisture, is long wearing, but slips off of my lips after an hour or so. I absolutely love Lancome’s color and textures of their lipstick, but I do like trying other brands and not paying $18.50 for lipstick. However, most other brands either seem too matte or don’t last long enough for my liking, except for Elizabeth Arden’s Exceptional Lipstick.
Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick actually comes in two different versions: the original Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick and Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick Lip Lip Hooray!. Here are the differences:
• Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick is a moist, long-lasting cream lipstick in a glide-on formula, which offers a smooth, rich lip color. This lipstick provides lips with continuous moisture with ongoing shine after just one coat. (I always use a good lip liner for best results). This lipstick stays put on my lips after drinking from a glass or eating and it last several hours throughout the day without reapplying. Ironically enough for a long wearing lipstick, it is so lightweight, that can barely feel it on your lips!
Colors include: Tempest, Fiesta, Velour, Blackberry, Fiesta, Starlight, Salmon, Neoclassic Coral, Wild Winterberry, Peach Fizz, Pink Glaze, Simply Red, Mango Spice, Copper Glow, Cherry, Orchid, Raspberry Cool, Shimmer, Red Diamonds, Coraline, Pink Vibrations, Desired, Black Cherry, Blossom, Burnt Orange, Brown Sugar, Lush Red, Desert Rose, Beauty and Grape Ice. Lush Red is the perfect shade of red lipstick for me. I have never found a shade of red that compares to this one. It isn’t orange or purplish red. It is a deep, vibrant color of red.
Ingredients include: Castor Oil, PEG-4 Diheptanoate, Candelilla Wax, Mica, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Nylon-12, Carnauba Wax, Ceresin, Triisocetyl Citrate, Cetyl Acetate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Ceramide 3, Tocopherol, Acetylated Lanolin Alcohol, Isostearyl Alcohol, Lanolin, Lecithin, Nylon-6, PEG-20 Sorbitan Beeswax, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, BHT, Corn Oil, Fragrance. May Contain: Blue No. 1 Lake, Bismuth Oxychloride, Carmine, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Manganese Violet, Red No. 6 Lake, Red No. 7 Lake, Red No. 21 Lake, Red No. 27 Lake, Titanium Dioxide, Yellow No. 5 Lake, Yellow No. 6 Lake.
• Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick Lip Lip Hooray! is an extraordinary lipstick that has the same results as Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick, but also contains SPF 15 and moisturizers to protect and heal lips like Chap Stick, and also a minty breath freshener. This hydrating lipstick formula also contains antioxidants and is dermatologist, clinically and allergy tested like the original formula. I love the concept of this because I usually coat my lips with a chap stick after applying my lip liner, and before applying lipstick to protect my lips. I prefer the Lip Lip Hooray minty smell to the traditional bland wax taste and smell of other lipsticks. However, I wish that there was a better color section. The colors available for this particular style are a little uninspiring, compared to the original Exceptional Lipstick shades.
Colors include: Glide, Hop, Dash, Swing, Whirl, Reverie, Prance, Wiggle, Fairytale, Sway, Spin, Blaze, Flaunt, Flash, Tumble, Slink and Whoop. The colors are traditional cool, warm and neutral colors of pinks, reds, and brown shades.
The Price
Both versions of Exceptional Lipstick are priced at $16.50 for a .14 ounce tube. Although that may seem somewhat expensive, this lipstick lasts for a very long time because it is so long wearing. I just threw out a couple of tubes that I had for more than two years (after a couple of years, lipsticks get a bit waxy and does not work as well). I have two shades in my purse, Wiggle and Lush Red, that I have had for over six months (and I still have plenty left in both tubes!)
Recent Changes at Elizabeth Arden, Inc. FFI Fragrances (who produce Halston, Calvin Klein, Giorgio Wings and Design) recently announced that Elizabeth Arden fragrances, cosmetics and skin care brands (as well as the Elizabeth Taylor and White Shoulders fragrance brands) have changed their names to Elizabeth Arden Inc.. With this merger, this will create some changes to many of Elizabeth Arden’s products, including the lip colors. My Elizabeth Arden counter representative told me that this change would create more diversity in the color selections. I certainly hope so. I love the texture of the lipstick, but the colors are somewhat boring in comparison to Lancome and Clinique. With more colors to choose from, I would be repeat customer!
