Candice923's Full Review: Fisher-Price Sesame Street Elmo Live
My daughter, Catherine, LOVES Elmo. I don't know why. It's not because she watches a lot of television, because she doesn't. She absolutely loves him. It's hilarious. At just 8 months, she could actually say "ELMO!" and wave her arm at him, hooting like an owl, until we brought him to her.
When I found Elmo Live! while shopping at Stop 'n Shop, I stopped dead in my tracks. I knew that Catherine would love this toy under the Christmas tree. I snatched it and paid for it. For the very first time, I had to bring the toy in while she was sleeping and wrap it right away. Elmo lived in his box for the next month, wrapped up in a beautiful box, waiting to meet his biggest fan.
Catherine was thrilled when we opened the gift Christmas morning and she saw the 15" Elmo Live in his box. She hooted, waved her arms, and shouted "ELMO!" over and over. After removing Elmo from his box and setting up the little blue bench that came with him, we pressed his foot and let him entertain the babies.
And entertain them he did! They were absolutely enthralled with Elmo Live. He sang, danced, played games, sneezed, made funny sounds and more. You never knew what he was going to do next. Sometimes Elmo got so excited, he fell down. Catherine would wail when he did this, as it seemed as though he was hurt. Elmo stopped what he was doing, straightened out and said, "Uh-oh! Elmo fell down! Can you help Elmo up please?" Once Elmo was stood upright, he thanked you and was ready to start his repertoire once again.
There is supposedly a power-save feature on Elmo Live. Considering we used Elmo Live quite a bit, I don't think the power save feature really mattered. We would have to change the batteries at least once every two weeks. Elmo Live drained the batteries.
Then, our Elmo Live developed arthritis in his knees-- At least, what my husband and I referred to as arthritis! When his knees would bend, there was this loud clicking and grinding sound. It was so loud, it scared Catherine. Soon, Elmo Live found himself in the Elmo cemetary.
We got seven solid months out of Elmo Live. We played with him every day. Was it worth the $60 I paid for him? Absolutely. The twins loved him, and missed him after he was gone. (We replaced him with Hokey Pokey Elmo, instead of dealing with the scary clicking sound again!) Elmo Live is a great gift for any Elmo lover. Just be aware of the dangers (frequent battery changes, "arthritis") of using Elmo Live every day.
