| Bacchus's Full Review: Empire Builder |
Empire Builder is a game that gamers and Rail Road fans both will like. The first in a series of "crayon" rail games, Empire Builder is set in the US.
Each player vies to be the first to connect the major cities of the US together by building rail lines across the country. They must also then collect the most money in order to win. Building track is not always easy, as another player may already have placed track where you wanted to go. Furthermore, the routes may include mountains, which are more expensive to build. You have to find alternatives, or use someone else's track to complete delivery of your goods to the proper city. When you do so, a fee must be paid, so the load had best be worth it.
To protect the board, make sure you only use the approved crayons, or as an alternative, get a piece of pexiglass to place over the board, and use water soluble markers instead. You'll be happy you did.
