takoateli's Full Review: EnGenius DuraFon 1X 1-Line Cordless Phone
I purchased a Durafon 1x from 101phones. I have the Durafon 1x along with other in my house. I noticed the Durafon 1x was registering calls answered by other phones as missed calls. So I contacted Engenius to see what could be done. The tech I talked to asked where I bought the phone, and when I said 101phones he went into a rant about 101phones being an unauthorized dealer, and how they sell questionable phones, and how Engenius had a container containing damaged and outdated phones broken into and phones were stolen, and he hinted that the phone I have may have been one of those phones. The tech also said that the current Durafon 1x firmware would recognize calls picked up by other extension as not being missed calls and the phone I have must be outdated. He also said my phone is not under warranty because it was purchased from a non-authorized dealer. He suggested I return the phone to 101phones and get one from an authorized dealer. So I contacted TWAComm (an authorized dealer) and found the phone at the same price. Before I lept into action I decided to contact Engenius one more time, verify that TWAComm is an authorized dealer, and that a new phone would recognize calls answed by other phones as not being missed. This time I got a different tech, who said the Durafon 4x would recognize calls answered by other extensions as not being missed (which seems to imply the 1x wouldn't). Then I got in a heated discussion with the tech when I explained that I wasn't happy I got caught in this situation where Engenius won't honor the warranty because I bought the phone from a "non-authorized" dealer. We went round and round about that. Anyway, BE WARNED that Engenius has this policy about authorized dealers, and their techs don't seem to know their equipment and it's features. I suspect the phone is made in China and these guys are just resellers. One has to speak Chinese to get a tech that really knows the system. And Engenius doesn't seem to be trying very hard to
