When I bought my Energizer charger, I knew I had to get some AAA batteries to go with it. The charger came with 2 AAs, but no AAAs. Lucky for me, a package of AAAs has 4, and that's all I need.
I purchased AAAs that are 900mAh, which, I suppose, relates to how much juice they carry. In order to get a full charge, they have to remain in my charger for at least 11-12 hours...but I have to admit, I hardly ever leave them in that long. Maybe 8 or 9 hours at most. In that case, it probably means they have a lot more potential than I'm allowing them. They do provide a lot of power despite my lapse in following directions.
I pretty much just use them for my MP3 player, which tends to eat up a lot of power. I get a lot of hours of music out of one little battery before I have to switch it out for a new one. Since I have four, I let my little sister use the others. I just keep charging and we just keep switching them out. They do lose their charge naturally over time, but it isn't much at all, at least not enough that I've ever really noticed (especially since I never charge them up like I'm supposed to anyway).
A pack of AAA batteries costs the same amount as the AAs: around $12, though some stores you can find NiMH batteries cheaper, but it's a hunt. One of the things that I think tends to turn people off from buying a charger and rechargeable batteries is the overall cost. Instead of paying $6, they see themselves paying $12 and all that equates in the mind is, "That's more." The whole rechargeable thing gets lost somehow. But TRUST ME, it's a good idea. Great, in fact. How about an example?
Pretending that I've needed 1 new battery 10 times in a given time and I buy batteries in packs of 4:
1 package of rechargeable AAAs @ $12 each= $12
3 packages of regular AAAs @ $6 each = $36
See? Cheaper. Yay!
It's just a good idea. That's really all it comes down to. I bought these and a charger and some AA NiMH batteries for my family as well and we haven't had to buy any batteries since. I can only imagine how much money we've saved over the months, especially with the way my little sister runs through them with her CD player and MP3 player. Well, everyone and their MP3 players, actually.
So. Thinking of going green via rechargeable batteries? Go for it!
