I have a 5 month old baby who is mainly breastfed. However, there have been a few occasions when I have had to be away from my baby for a short time such as when I have had activities with my older daughter. In some cases I have been able to pump to provide breast milk for my husband or mother to feed to my baby but that is exhausting and there have been a few times I have had to resort to formula. On these occasions, I have turned to Enfamil Lipil Single-Serve Powder Packets. Why did I choose this product?
Convenience
This product is so convenient and easy to use. If my husband had to measure out formula from a can while the baby was screaming, things just might not go very well. With these single serve packets, I can leave a bottle with water in it and all he has to do is pour in the already measured powder, add the nipple top, shake, and feed! The powder mixes easily with just a quick shake. It doesnt need to be warmed since the water is left at room temperature and my baby seemed to like it this way. If you did want to warm it, you could just run the bottle under warm water for a few minutes.
In addition, I also keep a packet or two of these in my diaper bag, just in case! I never know when I may be caught in a situation where I might not feel comfortable breastfeeding or if I might need to do something with my older daughter and someone else may need to give a bottle to the baby. These bright yellow packets stick out in my diaper bag and they will last for quite a while.
Trust
Enfamil is a brand that I can trust made by a company I trust. My baby was on a different Enfamil formula (Enfacare Lipil for premature infants--epinion can be seen here: http://www.epinions.com/content_234286976644 ) while he was in the hospital and it was great for him so I figured that Enfamil Lipil is good for him too. In addition, I talked to my pediatrician and she agreed that this was a good choice. On the few occasions when he has had it, he has happily slurped it all down with no bad after-effects so that convinces me!
Nutrition
Enfamil Lipil claims to be more like breast milk. Now, Ive never tasted either but my baby, who has, had no problem switching from one to the other. The fact that it claimed that it is similar to breast milk was a positive thing for me since I am breast feeding him. The Lipil is Enfamils blend of DHA and ARA, nutrients that are found in breast milk. In addition, when comparing Enfamil Lipil to other brands such as Similac, it appears to have more of the important vitamins and minerals, including DHA and ARA that babies need. And, since my doctor recommended Enfamil, Im just going to stick with it.

Product specifics :
Enfamil Lipil Single Serve Packets come with 16 pouches of formula per box. Each pouch has the correct amount of powder to make a 4 ounce bottle. So, from one box you can make 16 bottles of 4 ounces each or you can make 8 bottles of 8 ounces each. My baby usually can finish 8 ounces at once so we have used 2 packets at a time. The box cost me $9.50 at the local grocery store. This is more expensive per ounce than buying a can of powder but since we use it so infrequently and it is a convenience item for us, I dont mind spending it occasionally. So far, we have not yet even finished one box. When you buy the big can, it expires a month after opening it and wed wind up throwing a lot out so it would probably cost us just as much in the long run.
Disadvantages
The disadvantages I see in this product are that it is somewhat costly but any product you buy for convenience is going to cost a bit more.
This product only makes a 4 ounce or an 8 ounce bottle and there have been times when I wished it would make a 6 ounce bottle. Now, my baby can finish the 8 ounces so it is not a problem but early on, 4 was not enough and 8 was just a bit too much.
Is it worth it?
I think it is. I would recommend this product to parents who just need to feed an occasional bottle of formula to their baby.
