The Bottom Line: The Lady Englander is a tremendously comfortable mattress.

Having spent 11 uncomfortable years sleeping on an extra-firm Sealy mattress, I welcomed the opportunity to purchase a new mattress set would make me look foreward to going to sleep. So when I got the OK from my husband to purchase our new bed, I scoured every furniture store around to find the perfect bed.

My criteria was simple --COMFORT.

I am capable of sleeping on a piece of plywood, but my husband prefers something soft. We "fixed" our hard mattress problem by purchasing a feather-bed to place on top of our old mattress. While this solution was an improvement in terms of comfort, it had other drawbacks. The extra depth from the feather mattress made it so the sheets did not fit the bed and had to be secured on with garters. This made changing the sheets, difficult and in turn, seldomly done. (Also, we had to replace the featherbed 3 times in the past 11 years.)

So, I was set to find the "perfect" mattress that didn't require garters for the sheets. After much searching I came across an Englander Mattress dealer. The beds are high quality and the saleswoman told me they were comparable to the national brand Seally. (Although Seally has a "good reputation", I was unimpressed with it, so this wasn't a selling point for me.)
I actually lay on the showroom matresses, rolled both ways and moved around a lot to determine if it was even acceptable. (Many mattresses that I "tested" didn't make it to the moving around stage.

But the Englander had. It was extrememly comfortable with a "top pad" sewn on to the tradional mattress in 6" squares. This pad makes the mattress soft, yet the "traditional" mattress gives it its support. There is this "top pad" on both the top and bottom of the mattress so that when one flips their mattress every 3 months, it is just as comfortable. This feature is incredibly important.

In the showroom was a cross section of an actual Englander mattress showing all the different layers from the "metal cage" to the multiple paddings and stuffings to the anti-bacterial properties of each pad, etc. In a nutshell, it is impressive and common sense shows additional layers add up to additional comfort.

Now, for the actual use of the bed...

The mattress is a dream. We have eliminated our old feather bed altogether. Fresh sheets go on easily (every week now). We thoroghly adore our bed, even to the point of missing its comfort when we are traveling and staying at elegant hotels. Now that's a recommendation!
