My children enjoy the Peanut Butter Panda Puffs Cereal from Envirokidz, which is another organic and gluten-free cereal from this same brand. So, in an effort to branch out and try a few other cereal options I picked up a box of Envirokidz Organic Gorilla Munch Cereal from the natural and organic foods section of my grocery store. A 10oz box sells for around $3.50 which is on par with many other children's cereal.

Ingredients wise, I choose this cereal mainly because it is gluten free. It is also completely organic, vegetarian, kosher and has no trans-fats. All of the ingredients in this are sourced from 3 specific organic farms that use no harmful pesticides nor chemical fertilizer.

Here's what is is in Gorilla Munch (as listed on the product website): Organic corn meal, organic evaporated cane juice, sea salt. May contain traces of peanuts, tree nuts, or soy.

Gorilla Munch is a crunchy corn cereal, that is very similar to the Peanut Butter Panda Puffs but without the peanut butter. To compare it to a mainstream sugar cereal, I would say the taste it most like Captain Crunch but a bit less sweet. That's not to say this stuff isn't sweet, because it is very sweet and I think that is why my kids both enjoy it. Even though my daughter does not require a gluten free cereal, she will happily eat a bowl of Gorilla Munch along side her big brother. It doesn't get soggy at all in milk and stays crunchy for the entire bowl. My son eats this with soy or rice milk, and my daughter with cow's milk and it's crunchy munchy either way.

Envirokidz, in addition to using organic ingredients, is promoting environmental concerns through their line of children's cereals. This one has a picture of a Gorilla with a bowl of cereal on the front and the back sports both Gorilla facts and information about the Adopt-a-Gorilla campaign. Even the inside of the box there are more stories about helping Gorillas.

Nutritionally, Gorilla Munch isn't as bad as traditional sugar cereals though you should be aware that it is not fortified with any extra vitamins or minerals and really doesn't have much of any in it other than providing a small amount of iron. Still, it is not the most healthful of cereal options especially compared to other natural cereals in the organic section. But, it isn't really intended as such. This product provides children who are on a gluten free diet, whether they are celiac or like my son who is on the Autism spectrum, a sweet and fun breakfast option.

We'll continue to buy and eat Gorilla Munch cereal, both for breakfast or for a sweet crunchy dry snack.
