nerdsaregods's Full Review: Epson Stylus NX400 All-In-One InkJet Printer
In August of 2008, I had decided to buy this printer since it was the only printer within my college budget, $100, that did everything. I really just wanted a printer that would print text since I'm not too image heavy. This printer is wonderful. Never have I had a printer that didn't print those annoying green lines on every image until now.
The previous opinion on here stated something about the paper feeder not feeding any paper. I'm more than positive it was a defective printer, since it's incredibly easy to load paper. The printer has never falsely detected "out of paper" in the 4-5 months that I've had it. Loading paper only takes a matter of seconds, and I've even seen it handle 30 pages at once. I've never had a problem with this printer.
The scanning and copying functions of this computer work very well. Both are easy to operate so long as you read the manual. I was very happy that I could copy my writing assignments with ease.
About 25% of the pages I print are images, and I've never experienced the green line effect I've had with so many other printers. While the images aren't photo-printer quality, they're perfect for everyday use.
Printing speed isn't exceptional, but fairly quick. I printed a 15-page assignment-image heavy-in about 5 minutes. Regular documents with plain text take a matter of seconds.
I was very worried about the cost of ink, but the ink for newer epson models is pretty cheap. My first ink cartriges haven't run out yet, and the total amount for all 4 is about $35 via their site (free shipping). Epson was smart with their ink setup; when one color runs out, you replace that color, not all of them. This, in the long run, will cut your cost of ink.
The printer cable is your standard USB (like a camera cable), so there's no annoying add-ons you need to plug it into your computer as I've had to do with other printers.
There are many nice image features with this printer, such as the ability to plug your memory card directly into a slot on the computer. You can even scroll through the various images on your memory card and print directly off of it; no computer involved.
Overall, this is a very good home printer. I'm very happy with my printer, and I recommend it for anyone seeking a standard printer.
