dragon1's Full Review: Ergotron Neo-Flex™ (45-174-300)
Problem My room is a bit small at 12' X 9'. The position of the Computer desk and the couch means the monitor(that I watch TV/DVD movies on)is more than 8 1/2 feet from my position on the couch. Which makes for hard viewing of the screen. So when I designed and built my desk, one of things I did was put wheels on the legs. With all the cables that are connected to the computer, I can only move the desk(screen) about 1 1/2' closer. Even with a 20" LCD monitor-it is a little far away for this old man.
Solution I had seen desk top Desk top mountable Arms for LCD monitors. Since I buy 95% of my computer equipment from TigerDirect since the late 80's. This is where I first went looking. Here I found the Ergotron Neo-Flex LCD Arm with Extension for 15-20" Monitors VESA Compliant. Looking at the advertisement, I figured that with this arm I would be able to move the monitor from 14" to 15" closer. The price for this arm was $79.99 with S&H.
Problem Solved When I received the package, I was surprised just how much it weighed for such a small package. It came fully assembled with the desk edge clamp. It also included a bag with all the tools needed for any adjustments and all the parts needed to mount the LCD monitor to the arm. It also comes with a desk clamp which will allow for clamping anywhere on the desk.
Spec's on the Arm Weight Capacity: 18 lbs Mounting Option: Desk Clamp attaches to surface edge up to 2" (50 mm) thick; Grommet Mount attaches through hole up to 2" (50 mm) wide and up to 1-3/4" (44 mm) deep—must be center mounted on the through hole. Standards: Accommodates VESA™ MIS-D, 100/75, C compliant LCDs Shipping: Weight: 9 lbs
I have tried both methods of fastening to the desk. Because of the precision of the making of this product. It is rock solid with none of the vibration or moving of the monitor if you bang or bump the desk. I have also found that the arm will extend the monitor 1' 6" closer to me on the couch. With this arm the monitor can be rotated from landscape to portrait and back, it can also go from 2" above the desk to 9". Because I have 2 monitors on my computer I will be buying another one. Because of the quality and precision of this arm I think it is worth the price paid. Update I now have a 24"LCD on a Ergotron Arm. I have the height adjust up as far as it goes but it works and works very well.
