greatunknown1's Full Review: Terry Pratchett - Eric
Terry Pratchett has become one of my favourite authors and this work is in his usual style of a blundering hero in a world gone mad.
The book centres around a young boy called Eric (based on Faust) who summons a demon. However instead of a demon he gets Rincewind a failed wizard who has starred in many of Pratchett's works. This is due to a complex series of events that resulted in Rincewind being thrown into various dimensions and finally hell. However it seems that for once Rincewind has some powers bestowed on him by his new demonic status.
As fans of the Discworld series will know with Rincewind comes the luggage a large travelling case on hundreds of legs.
After this start up Rincewind, Eric, the luggage and an over talkative parrot move through the Discworld enraging tribes and creating life, as we (or should that be they) know it in the process.
The book is very easy to get into and is compelling and interesting for the whole way through. Naturally there are many jokes of the standard always seen in Discworld books this is one area the writer never disappoints in. The quiet mocking of his characters comes across excellently. From the uptight teenage Eric to the uncertain and usually terrified Rincewind the characters are believable and often hilarious.

This is a good book to read even if you haven't read other Discworld books although you will find the jokes more amusing if you have.
It is not the best book to get into Discworld with. I would recommend one of the earlier books such as Mort or Sorcery as these are very good and are able to be read without having read previous books.
