Something about Magnestism made me think of marshmallows. This is the reason I sprung for yet another fragrance. Unfortunately the new-ish scent from Escada doesn't make me as happy as it once did.
Magnetism, introduced by Escada in 2003, is packaged in a lovely tall and faceted magenta bottle. It is officially categorized as a sharp oriental. Unfortunately the "oriental" is much too floral for most occasions. I would definitely prefer it to be more musky or fruity versus the green/floral tendency it has. I want to like it. Heck, for the price I want to love it, but it sits on my shelf almost completely untouched a year after purchase.
If I can say one good thing about Magnetism, it is that the scent lasts for a reasonable amount of time. If you spritz it on your skin or clothing in the morning you'll still smell it after lunch. Whether or not you'll WANT to actually smell it for that long remains to be seen--but it is definitely strong enough to be worth the designer price (for fans, of course).
Escada has designed dozens of fragrances over the years. While Magnetism is not among their best, most original, or most striking it is also not horrible. It is probably best suited for people who want to smell sweet and green. The original hint of marshmallow I got no longer exists. Instead it just hangs around and tends to be too sweet to be classified as mature or even interesting. It is best suited to young women or teenagers, which is quite a shame considering it boasts designer prices.
Escada founder Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley are reported to have designed this mediocre scent. It has top notes that are dominated by fruit and greens. Just beneath that you will be inundated by jasmine and almond blossom. Had the cashmere vanilla, sandalwood, amber, and musk been more prominent I think Magnetism would have been much better. As it stands, I'm not impressed by the sharply frigid eau de parfum spray.
Escada Magnetism retails for around $50 for the 2.5oz spray. It lists for $72, but you can get it cheaper. You can also dig up a 1.7oz size for around $40, a mini for $12, deodarent spray for $20, and body lotion for $20. My suggestion would be to sniff before you buy. If you get marshmallow from Magnetism, don't make the mistake I did. If you like the green/floral/fruit/barely any musk variety of perfumes you may like this Escada creation. If you are interested in Escada as a brand, I suggest you look toward other scents like Ibiza Hippie (which I should have bought instead of Magnetism), Tropical Punch, Rockin Rio, Sexy Graffiti, or pretty much anything else. There are lots of superior Escada options.
