poet1967's Full Review: Escape by Enrique Iglesias
Enrique makes you want to sing along and this is why I like this CD. All of the songs, except Hero, are great to sing along to, even is you stink at singing. I do not know anyone who can sing Hero. Enrique didn't really. He whispers in his bedroom voice on this track.
This is also a romantic must. If this man's voice doesn't put a girl in the mood, what will? Even the more upbeat songs are sensual!
Track 1 is Escape, so is 11 but in Spanish. This is the title song and a lovely breathy ballad but I did not think that this song deserved the title spot. Hero or Don't Turn off the Lights would have been a better title. So it goes with most CDs. This sensual track is just what it takes to kick off a romantic evening and makes a good #1 track and warms the listener up for the better tracks that follow.
Track 2 is Don't Turn off the Lights. This track is repeated in Spanish for #12, too. I like this song and it is a little more upbeat but by no means does it loose it's ballad status. This song has a deeper meaning, to me anyway. This is another Enrique style breathy song that has the power to seduce.
Track 3 is Love to See You Cry. This song is my favorite. Enrique uses a greater range for this song and I like the fact that he is actually singing here more than some other songs. This song is also a break from they typical love song. Here the singer is telling the person he is singing to that he likes to see her cry. Take this as you may, but I like to think that the voice is just a little of balance. This is the way some women feel men think and Enrique widens his audience with this ambiguous song. It at least gives one something to ponder.
Track 4 should be the title track but is not. It is also repeated as track 13 in Spanish. This is the song everyone knows. This is a breathy and as seductive as they come. Most women cannot resist a man who wants to be a hero and most of us, at least sometimes, think of this type of man. This fact alone makes this song a real seducer. This the only track on the CD that is hard to sing along to and makes me wonder, "how does he make this sound so good?" Well, I think, it is in the lyrics and the whisper.
Track 5 is I will Survive. This is a little more upbeat but another ballad. This is a breathy seducer as well but leaves me flat sometimes. I skip it about half of the time and enjoy it the other half.
Track 6 is Love 4 Fun. Another ballad but missing that spark that Hero carries and fails in comparison. I skip this track about 70% of the time. Partially because I enjoy the other tracks much more and partially because it is just flat.
Track 7 is Maybe and this song is another lukewarm ballad. This is also skipped about 70% of the time.
Track 8 is One Night Stand and concludes the group of songs to be skipped quite often. It is another breathy ballad that cannot live up to Hero.
Track 9 is an awesome dance tune. Maybe a little slower than most but a great dance tune with fun upbeat lyrics. This song makes light of dating and the feelings people get when they are first in love but does it in a manner not to offend. I like this song a lot because the upbeat tempo is a nice break in the CD.
Track 10 is a real keeper. This song is titled If the World Crashes Down. This song has a faster tempo and is fun to listen to. This is a song that makes you feel thankful for those you love and is another Enrique seducer. His voice makes you believe his words in this song and does live up to the standard set by Hero.
Overall, this is a good CD with some excellent songs and some that just don't measure up. Then again, it is hard to measure up to the feeling, and spirit that Enrique puts into Hero. Hero will always be the song Enrique is remembered for and will never be redone with the same quality. This song alone almost makes the CD worth buying. Add in tracks 2,3,9, and 10, and you have a reason to buy this CD. It is good to drive or romance with, as well as get ready for a date with. Give it a try!
It s a tough call who makes women swoon more: Enrique or his father Julio Iglesias? But Enrique has broken the mold with his own brand of sexy music t...More at Buy.com Marketplaces
