The Escort Passport SRX is Escort's top-of-the-line remote radar detector system. It is very similar to their entry-level Escort Passport SR7, but it includes some vital features that the SR7 doesn't offer. I had a wonderful opportunity to use this system when I drove in a 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera. The type of configuartion was the the $1,500 unit. So, how did the Escort Passport SRX perform?

-This Thing Is Expensive, Is It Worth The Money?-
*The Escort Passport SRX costs $1,500 for the normal unit, and $1,600 for the hidden unit. If you live in a state where radar detectors are illegal, then you should go with the hidden unit. However, if you live in a state where detectors are legal, you should buy the $1,500 model. The Escort Passport SRX is a few hundred dollars more than the Escort Passport SR7 which costs $1,100. The major difference is the fact that the Escort Passport SRX has laser shifters, while the Escort Passport SR7 does not. The Escort Passport SRX is worth it over the Escort Passport SR7, because it only takes on laser ticket to spoil your day! If you're really a lead footed driver and have a passionate hatred towards tickets, you should buy the Escort Passport SRX. However, if you speed occassionaly, or simply don't want to be spending $1,500 for a radar detector, then you should buy something like a Valentine One which offers unbelievable protection for only $400.
-Fighting Against The Cops-
*The Escort Passport SRX is an excellent tool against fighting cops who wish to give you speeding tickets. The base model, which isn't hidden costs $1,500. The hidden unit costs an extra $100. However, a hidden display is your only form of protection against from cops in states where radar detectors are illegal.
The feature that really sets the Escort Passport SRX apart from the SR7 and many other detectors is the fact that it has a laser shifting system. In reality, it's a jammer, but Escort prefers to call it a 'shifter'.
The Escort Passport SRX obviously includes a radar that is strong in sensitivity, and has a nice easy to read LED. However, one thing that I wished that the Escort Passport SRX had was arrows like the Valentine One has. The Valentine One is $1,100 cheaper, and arrows make a big difference for many drivers. If I were a resident of a state where detectors were illegal, I'd still want arrows! They really help in showing where the cops are, and the bogey counter in the Valentine One helps avoid speed traps. Well, other than that, the Escort Passport SRX still does what it's supposed to do very efficiently.
-The Escort Passport SRX Is One Sensitive Puppy!-
*The Escort Passport SRX has a very nice sensitive radar. It incorporates sensors in different parts of the car. There are two that are mounted in the grille of the car, and one in the rear. These give excellent 360 degree protection to the vehicle. The Escort Passport SRX obviously supports all of the major bands, X, K, Ka, and laser. When I was driving the car, I was hit with Ka twice. The Escort Passport SRX gave me a very nice warning time for it. It was definitely some of the best that I've seen from any detector. So before the day was over, I was on the highway speeding quite a bit, around 80mph. I was being targeted by a state trooper on I-55 in Illinois. Well, the laser shifter worked well at diffusing the laser signal. So, I was never clocked, I had nice and ample time to slow that car down! Whatever band it is, the Escort Passport SRX has great sensitivity, it will give excellent warning times for all of the bands, and it'll even save you from laser!
The downside to such sensitivity is that there is falsing. The Escort Passport SRX falsed a couple of times, but the Spec Display showed exactly which kind of band the detector was picking up, and the frequency of the band. This allowed me to distinguish what was nothing, or what was a real cop! Remember, it's better to be safe than to be stuck with a ticket.
-So Yes, The Laser Shifter DOES A Difference!-
*The Escort Passport SRX uses a laser shifting system as I have stated before. Since their are two transceivers in the front of the car, instead of only one which would be used in a K40, the Escort Passport SRX is more efficient at diffusing a laser. You might be thinking that the extra $400 for the shifter is expensive, but in reality, there isn't much other protection against laser. Once you've been targeted, you're caught!
-Other Neato Features-
*The actual unit comes with an easy to read display. It features a Spec Display which can show the frequency of a signal, so if you understand how the signals work, you can figure whether its falsing, or whether it's not. Also, if you play really loud music or have a convertible, then an extra powered speaker is offered which will intensify the sound. It's a very nice feature. The Escort Passport SRX is nicely loaded with everything you could wish to get from a radar detector.
*If you want the downright best protection available against cops, then the Escort Passport SRX is a great choice. It's much better bang for the buck compared to the K40, simply because it's a better product itself. It has wonderful radar sensitivity, and awesome anti-laser protection. If you live in a state where radar detectors are illegal, no fear, the Escort Passport SRX is here! You can get the hidden unit for $1,600, and no cop will ever know you had a detector. But if you simply want strong protection from cops, I'd say to go with the Valentine One. I really wish the Escort Passport SRX had arrows to show where the radar signal is coming from, but for most people, all they need is common sense. Slow down when there's a signal! But remember, the Escort Passport SRX offers shifters, more sensors, and is also hidden. So, figure out what you need, and if its a remote unit like the Escort Passport SRX, then you should get one!
