| Delgiorno's Full Review: Escort Passport 6800 Radar Detector |
I purchased this product to use in my extra vehicle. I have to admit that I have been disapointed with some prior offerings from Escort (such as the Passport 4600) and was reluctant not to splurge on the Passport 7500 model being touted as dramatically superior. After using this detector for approxiamtely one month, I am completely satisfied with the performance it provides - especially considering the cost of $180.00. I especially appreciate the easy to read band identifiers, smooth, gradual, warning tones and programable features - such as louder tones and city sensitivity. I have detected radar on X-Band from as far away as 1.4 miles on a straight, yet hilly, road. K-Band seems to average between 0.8-1.1 miles depending upon terain. I have since purchased a Passport 7500 and, aside from the text-display and additional programing features, am hard pressed to notice much of an increase in detection range. The Passport 6800 is very resistant to false alarms and virtually silent when the default level city mode is selected. City sensitivity (only X-Band is affected) can be reduced further or completely eliminated. This unit also detects (actually, decodes) Safety Warning System and Safety Alert X-Band signals and reports them through a series of flashing sequences of the signal strenght meter (the Passport 7500 will display an actual text message). For the money, this unit is a very good perfomer, extremely easy to understand and program, provides more than adequet range to react accordingly and comes with a one year warranty. A two-year extended warranty is also available from Escort. For the record, neither the Passport 6800 or Passport 7500 detect as far away as my Valentine One. HOWEVER, neither unit is nearly as prone to false alarms as my V-1. Given the adequet warning of either Passport unit and their resistance to false alarms (combined with there selectable auto-mute feature) have made me shelf the V-1 and use the Passport 7500 almost exclusively. If you can afford the extra $50- I would suggest the 7500. If you are looking for a really decent detector with a nice array of features that will protect your license too buy the Passport-6800.
