Pendaflex Esselte Manila Folders – Work in my office!

Written: Apr 07 '08
Pros:Light color, easy to use, pre-creased expansion to 3/4 inch at bottom!
Cons:Light weight paper construction, but they do last under normal use!
The Bottom Line: These folders are a decent product at a decent price. They get the job done!

In our office, like most, we use a number of products to help file paperwork either in our desks or in special file cabinets for auditors. We like to have items organized and easy to locate. The Pendaflex Esselte Manila Folders are the product we use to help keep organized.

The Product
These manila folders are pretty standard to the office manila folders that I am sure you have either seen or even used in your office. These folders are the standard letter size 8 ½ by 11 inches.

They state these folders are 1/3 tab cut. This means that there are 3 positions the tab that sticks up for you to label the folder. You might have a tab on the left, middle or right side of the folder. These tabs are ½ inches and have a slight under cut to allow for easier viewing of the label you either paste or write on this tab.

The folders allow for expansion up to ¾ inch. Therefore, you can put in quite a bit of paperwork without compromising the folder. It is pre-creased to allow for easier expansion to ¼, ½ or up to ¾ of an inch of paperwork!

The paper stock that this is made out of comes in at 11 point paper. This gives the paper folder a bit of thickness that helps resist tears and holds up decent. But, using the product, I feel that I can get greeting card stock with more firmness than these folders provide. I have also noticed that whatever I put in the folder whether it’s handwritten or typewritten, I can see the print shape or lines through the cover of the folder. I cannot read what it says, but I can see the darkened sections where items are written or typed in, see how full that first page is with text.

The corners of the top or open side of these folders are rounded. This helps with opening the folders as the pages behind them are the standard square cut paper. I have found these corners help keep the corners or edges from catching other folders or papers as well. The bottom of the folder is squared, but this is where the brunt of the paperwork inside rests, which helps protect the bottom of the paperwork in the folders.

The color of the folders is manila. If you are not familiar with this, it is a light, yellow or beige shade. You can label the folder very easily with any color of pen, marker, pencil or sticky label and you should have no trouble whatsoever seeing what you have written. Obviously, a pencil of the standard tip size might be a bit light to read if you write lightly. But, the folder color is light enough that it would not be impossible to read what you have written.

These folders are partly recycled, using a minimum of 10% post consumer waste. These folders are also recyclable when you are done using them. I find that I can get quite a lot of uses out of one folder though. I white out the one label and reuse the folder. Or, I turn the folder inside out and use the fresh tab to label with new information. After both sides have been labeled and then whited out, I then use an adhesive label over the written labels. I ensure that I get plenty of use prior to recycling the folders.

Overall Impressions

Virtually every company needs or uses manila folders, regardless of the reason. If you are looking for a decent product that gets the job done and doesn’t cost a tremendous amount of money, you should look into this product. I have seen these folders listed for as low as .11 cents per folder. Usually, we purchase them in 100 count boxes and get a discount for purchasing them. I believe they break out to roughly .13 cents each (bought in 100 count) after delivery charges are assessed.

These folders work well, are reusable and they hold up fairly well. They do get tattered and can rip, but with normal, basic use, they should hold up quite some time. If you are using one folder daily opening, filing, and moving it around a lot, it might not last as long as mine due. But, with normal office usage, they should carry you a long time!

~Thank you for spending time with me today!~
