Doing a lot of writing and keeping all or papers for house filed properly, I really need to keep things organized. While I have two four-drawer filing cabinets with hanging folders, I still need to separate certain papers. I found file inserts to be my answer. I chose to use the Smead Interior File Folders.
The Smead Interior File Folders are made using recycled paper - that is always a big plus in my book.
These file folders come in two sizes: legal (8.5x14) and letter (8.5x11) which is the one I use.
The tab is the perfect size for writing the identifying name of the item youre using the folder for. Its not too small so you know can write on it without squashing your words. Its not too big where it blends in with all your other folders - which would make finding your files somewhat more difficult. The tab is called the 1/3 cut and for those who arent familiar with it, it means that the tab is 1/3 the length of the folder size.
Before I forget, I should mention that these tabs are located in the three different positions on various folders for ease in filing. Youll get top, middle and bottom locations. As I said, filing made easy.
The color of these particular folders seems to be a cross between a very pale yellow and cream. The color, in itself, is a good advantage since what you write on the tab can actually be seen immediately without straining your eyes wondering what on heart it is you wrote. (Im not fond of those other folders that come in deep colors like red or blue.)
Another thing I like is the price. Depending on where you shop and the particular weight of the folders, they can cost for a box of one hundred, anywhere from $7.00 (the one ply thickness) to $17.00 (the two ply thickness). I prefer the two-ply because it is sturdier and keep the inserted papers in better condition. Besides, when I have a meeting where I need to bring any kind of report, the two-play just look nice. But thats my opinion.
Like all paper products, the Smead Interior File Folders wont last forever. Ive had and have used mine for more than one year but when they finally fall apart, I wont because the price is so reasonable, Ill just go out and buy another box.
Its just my opinion that without the Smead Interior File Folders, my filing system would be a complete mass of utter chaos. These really do help!
Oh, another thing I use them for is to separate my work to do from my work done and needs to be filed. Instead of having a bunch of loose papers on my desk, I have a nice looking pile of folders. Sure looks a lot neater (even if I dont ever get everything done.)
