| Suzer's Full Review: Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In Place Conc... |
My dream for a great concealer that lasts through just about anything, has finally come true. Okay, I do have other dreams of a more serious nature. I'm still hoping for a white knight riding on Mr. Ed (errr, I guess a descendant of), to come flying through my front door, but for now I am quite happy with the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Concealer. Some of you have heard this many times, but I have some broken capillaries on my chin, and a couple of smile lines etc. that bother me. Of course we are more self conscious about our own appearance, and notice more than the person on the street will about us. That doesn't make it any less of a beauty concern. On top of that, I have skin that is somewhat oily combined with being in the (clearing throat) over 40ish age range, so that makes it a little trickier. The concealers that I have found in the past either looked chalky or fake, were oily, or simply didn't last. I was hoping to find a really good concealer without spending a lot of money, but the concealer that worked the best for me, and was fairly reasonable cost-wise, didn't last through the day, or certainly a workout. I was impressed with the claims of this Estee Lauder product. So moving on~~
Packaging:
I was initially rather appalled when the Lauder representative brought out this tiny square white bottle with a long gold cap, and saw that it contained merely .24 fluid ounces of product (or 7 ml), and that it cost $17.00. I wanted to say, ha ha, where is the real bottle? But I was pleased when I saw the applicator wand, and she explained that I would need very little product, so it should last a long time before requiring replacement. Phew!
Pick your color:
Okay, I have to say here that I am shocked that Estee Lauder does not carry this concealer in shades appropriate for darker skin, and/or people of color also. How is that meeting the needs of all women? Having said that, here are the shades they do offer:
* Very Light
* Light
* Light-Medium
* Medium
Product Hype:
Long wearing, transfer resistant formula hides blemishes, dark circles, and more. It lasts through humidity and workouts.
Special Coverage-Double wear concealer is a must have for longer events where you want to look great all day and into the evening, weddings, conferences, important meetings, even nights where you don't have a chance to get home before heading out on the town.
All Estee Lauder concealers are fragrance free, and are dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested
Warning:
Discontinue if irritation develops & keep out of eyes
How I chose this particular Lauder concealer:
I had some difficulty ascertaining which of the Lauder concealers would be right for me. I decided against the Smoothing Creme Concealer although the Vitamin E in it sounded appealing, as it is mainly for concealing wrinkles and fine lines, and that isn't much of a problem as yet. Their Automatic Creme Concealer sounded doable as they state it minimizes minor imperfections and blemishes, and doesn't cause caking, but it is just for light coverage, and doesn't have the staying power of the Double Wear. I also considered their Lucidity Light Diffusing Concealer with SPF 8 (comes in a soft tipped pen), but it costs $19, and again doesn't have the longevity of the Double Wear.
Next, the right color for me:
I was recently advised that I should be wearing light-medium in foundations and powders, in lieu of light, so that is firmly entrenched in my mind. However, I have always heard that for concealers you should get either the same shade as your foundation, or a shade lighter. Jean, the Lauder rep, told me that I should definitely opt for the light in lieu of the light-medium, as my skin tends toward oiliness, and that darkens the makeup. Wow, I didn't know that, so I purchased the light.
My experience:
When I first returned from the department store, I sat down on a convenient seat in my bathroom in front of my magnifying mirror. I unscrewed the gold cap and pulled out the applicator. There was just enough product on the soft tipped wand this first time(I check each time just in case however as I don't want to waste it), and I lightly tapped the product on the few little spots I wanted to conceal. I then applied my foundation. If you wish you can apply concealer, foundation, and then more concealer, but I don't find it necessary at all with this product, and I do finish off the look with loose powder. I have been using this concealer for the last couple of months. I love the coverage; it is not cakey, and it lasts me throughout the day or evening. If I am very concerned it is petite enough to fit in my purse to take along with me, but it hasn't presented any problems.
What I like about it:
I am very pleased with the product - the shade is right for my coloring, and it lasts through just about anything (even my treadmill), and I don't have that fear of people whispering "Oh look, she is wearing concealer, ha ha, and thinks we don't know". It is natural and polished looking. The SPF-10 is an added plus, and the wearability is as good as I've found.
What I don't like:
As noted above, I am miffed that they do not offer this in more shades, geared toward all women, and I am not thrilled about the cost. It will be difficult to tell when I am running out of product, as the bottle is white.
Final thoughts:
I am very excited about finally finding a concealer that not only conceals, but contains SPF-10, and lasts through just about anything. I am willing to spend more for quality. It makes more sense to me than buying numerous products that don't cost much, and get tossed in the rejected makeup basket hiding in my bathroom cupboard. I recommend the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Concealer with SPF-10 for women with fair or medium complexions, requiring medium coverage that will stay put. I am giving this great product four and a half stars. You can find this product online most easily, or at high end department stores.
